Cabs etc

Last time I went it was cheaper to buy a carnet (book of tickets) for the metro than to buy them individually. Can't suggest any hotels, sorry

Thanks A . A , that wil be worth thinking about , as we need to get from eurostar to hotel , then from hotel to train station to take us to Angoleume where we will be met , so they might save a copper or two

We tend to use the Accor hotels, Novotel, Ibis, Etap etc. We tend to go for Ibis which are all done to a pretty good specification.

Ibis , decent prices ? are near train station?

Try Hotel Alhambra, 11 rue de Malte 11 arrondissement/Bastille/Republique - good price, decent facilities, clean, friendly, close to Oberkampf Metro and therefore on direct line into centre (7 mins) good bars and everyday shops i.e. chemists etc, in immediate vicinity. Check it out on Booking.com. I was there last week!

There are 42 Ibis in Paris - the one at Gare Montparnasse sems to be about 90€. Which station do you need? If you Google Ibis Paris you will see where they are.

Monparnasse is a long way from where the Eurostar comes in..in a taxi it would cost you about 40 euros and don't even think about doing that cross city run on the Metro with luggage, however compact. (Lots of stairs and very few escalators)

We paid 58 euros at the Hotel Alhambra including a perfectly acceptable buffet breakfast. The staff speak English, if you're worrying about your French.

I imagine Nonu is departing from Montparnasse on the next leg of her journey and would have to cross Paris anyway?

If you're heading south to Angouleme, and come into Paris on Eurostar, then there is no way of avoiding the trek across Paris. If you do that by metro, Nonu, then it will be a race against time - pay for a taxi - it much easier, and safer! Worth the pennies.

I don't think she will be racing against time though - that is why she is going to the hotel for the night! Having said that, I would get a taxi.

I always use Laterooms for booking hotels - the Eurostar arrives at Gare du Nord station - 10th arrondissement - if you put that in there are a lot of hotels shown.
The carnet of Metro tickets can be bought at a Tabac.
If you have time the open top bus ride is very good - we joined it at Opera.

hello to all who gave me tips for Paris in July we got back yesterday and had a lovely time ./ We caught Eurostar to Paris then Metro across to our hotel and it was quite easy really mind you himself is good at route finding . Stayed overnight in A nice hotel in fact a Comfort because we realised because we are members of their group , with going to States a lot we get points when added up gives us 3/4 nights free. Anyway we then caught train to Angoleume were we were met by DD and DG"S and taken to our hotel . We had lots of being entertained royally and then of course SIL"S 40th bash . So all in all it was greaaat . Just thought you might like to know and thanks for help .x

Butternut , thanks sweetie. One thing I did notice though is how vaaaast France is you just forget don"t you.

Nonu - no I don't forget - I live in France. When I return to England it always seems so small! Love going back though.....

I have fallen in love with the TGVs in France which make the country seem a great deal smaller! I love seeing the changes in landscape.
