Hello everyone

I am planning to take my grandchildren to Paris - singly - starting with the 12 year old. I thought we would stay for three nights, in the centre somewhere and I would love to hear about other people's experience and to have some advice about things to do, places to stay, places to go etc. We'd probably fly as it would be from Newcastle.

Very good advice about ensuring you have written permission from both parents to take their child abroad - we were allowed back but strongly advised to have that written permission next time.

I seem to be rather late to the party!

I don't think you can just pinch stuff off Gransnet and use it - I have emailed AQA and Gransnet. Heigh ho.

I have now taken 5 grandchildren to Paris: we have endured floods, terror attacks, blistering heat (July), cold wet weather (July), Metro strikes and on one occasion Eurostar was turned back at the channel and in the end we had to change our trip to a date a few months later. But we have had great fun. One more to go then I shall return for several weeks renting somewhere and exploring all the things we have not had time for.

I am going to Paris next week and I was just wondering if there were any tips you could all present me with as my grandchild Jacob aged 12 is a bit iffy with travelling abroad especially when it’s raining as it seems it may be raining when we go. Thank you xx

Get a letter from the child's parent's. preferable stamped by a solicitor to say that they have given you permission to take your granddaughter abroad without them, especially if she has a different surname.

Some grandparents, aunts uncles etc have found themselves being police interviewed in order to be absolutely sure the child is not being abducted or trafficked.
