Over-packing

Does anyone else have the same problem as me - a two week holiday turning into an ordeal because I can't decide what to pack? This results in me taking lots of 'just-in-case' things which I don't need and won't wear. I usually bring at least 50% of the stuff back unworn. I once took 12 pairs of shorts for a two week holiday and I daren't admit to the amount of t-shirts/tops I usually include.

This year, as always, it's a beach/sightseeing holiday on a very relaxed Greek island. No one cares what you look like, and neither do I from the minute I step off the plane, but this doesn't stop me from getting into a big frenzy and packing nearly everthing I own. I honestly think I have some kind of OCD or similar.

Can anyone share their holiday packing list/routine to try and give me something to compare with? I think this would make me see how ridiculous I am being and spare my poor DH from all my stressing (and from putting his back out dragging the luggage around)

Well this has to be the best thresd ever! Needless to say this is me too. It reminds me of my favourite poem 'Just in Case' by Charlotte Mitchell. I'm making lists from all the suggestions as we're off to Dorset in a couple of weeks in self catering which is not too bad as I can just fill the car up. Different story when we go to a hotel in August and the owner always helps carry stuff in and makes comments like 'You don't travel light do you?'
Have a great holiday Pigeon and try not to stress too much.

PS: Poor Derek, I bet he has a red face now!

I think us ladies are all the same stressing about packing, but then we've got the husbands to cope with,I always take things out or add to his case, and he likes to wear socks with his sandals ?I won't let him! Only advice I've got is most things will roll up,they don't crease.

We are off for a cruise to Norway tomorrow and first words DH said to me this morning were did I need some paracetamol as I always get a headache packing. Clothes are ready on bed/ hanging up in spare room but both of us have decided on an extra pair of trousers for the two cruising days so two refresh washes it is. Despite trying to be organised, with lists etc., I always forget at least one crucial thing. What will it be this time, the toothbrushes, the hairbrush..?

I sympathise OP. On at least 2 long holidays I have posted a parcel of clothes back to UK! When I look back I have no idea why I didn't just discard them. On my most recent holiday I travelled in oldish clothes and binned them as they were unsuitable for a hot country. The irony is that I travelled a lot for years for work and became adept at packing light. I think the difference is that I knew exactly what I would need in terms of weather and activities, whereas holidays are less predictable.

We have recently been to Spain for a week taking only hand luggage. So two bags. We still bought one bag of clean unworn clothes back. I think I over pack because I've bought a fair bit of stuff over the years especially for holidays and think I should get my money's worth by trying to wear them. Stupid I know because mostly I only wear sarongs swimming costumes. Light skirts and tee shirts plus flip flops and sandles on holiday.
