Would you like a Gransnet trip?

I would certainly consider this as I like to get away for a week or so on my own and I'm currently scouring the internet for a week's break for this year. I enjoyed a coach holiday to the Dolomites a few years back and last year I had a week in Paphos, I have enjoyed several short breaks in this country too. I tend to take my own holiday earlier in the year (Spring break) as during the summer I holiday with extended family and then go away with The Wonderful Man to recover from the family holiday! I would really like a European Christmas Market holiday however and I wonder if this is something that many others would also enjoy?

People's ideas of what is cheap or expensive differ hugely.

Charleygirl On our tour our baggage was taken to our room and collected from there at each stop, reappearing as if by magic in the coach. Also all rooms were ensuite. I know that the couple with the Husband disabled, were allocated a downstairs room with walk in shower at each overnight stop.

I am based in Scotland and therefore enjoy free bus travel anywhere in the country. I expect many members have limited resources to be able to afford train fares or hotels so a meet up within a free travel area would be the most inclusive option.
I do realise that the OP was about a holiday. To my mind that would exclude a lot of people and could be devisive. I would be turned off of Gransnet if a core of holiday participants continually referred back to their experiences.

Actually, the more I think about it the more I think it a bad idea. Anonymity is important in allowing members to express themselves without fear of being judged.

But a number of GN members already meeet up for coffee etc so doesn’t that negate your point about anonimity Espee ?

I think some members already take holidays anyway and some don’t so I don’t see why this would be any different really. I’m sure we could keep holiday reminiscences to one thread so you could easily pass that by as I do now with any that don’t interest.

I think I’d be more concerned about my lack of mobility like some of the others have mentioned. I’ve traveled a lot with my scooter but that does mean hiring a car that’s suitable if flying .Does anyone know if coaches put scooters in the luggage compartment? ?

I have been on coach tours where one scooter was in the luggage bit , not sure if more than one could be accommodated though . My Rollater was in with the scooter

I’d be interested, subject to what’s on offer. I think the best way forward would be for GNHQ to give us three or four options and see what attracts the most interest.

For me, I’d probably prefer just a short UK break to start with, somewhere with good transport links (York would be great for me, as it happens, but London/Edinburgh/Manchester fit the bill). I second the ideas already put forward of a theme, a quiz, a murder mystery, but would happily consider other options.

Esspee there's nothing to fear from meeting others. The next Edinburgh meet is next Friday and it looks like a Glasgow one is coming up soon. Anonymity is out the window!

I don't understand the anonymity problem.

If you want to remain anonymous, just don't go to meet-ups or on a Gransnet trip.

But other people meeting up or going on trips doesn't compromise your anonymity, only theirs. so why are you bothered?

I once went on a four day break which was organised by a popular magazine. It was at a Warner hotel and there were lots of single ladies plus others with partners.
Different activities were arranged throughout the day with entertainment in the evening. I’m quite shy but I really enjoyed myself and had many a good laugh while we were together doing things such as crafts, quizzes, wine tastings,beauty displays, choir singing plus different sports for all abilities etc etc.
Would something along these lines be of interest ? And because there is entertainment it might take the pressure off for some who find it difficult to keep chatting to strangers ??

Forgot to say. Regarding anonymity couldn’t those who wanted to, change their name ?

Izzywizzy I would not like to be called Charleygirl the entire time. I would introduce myself like that and then state my birth name.

I meet people for coffee regularly and we obviously know the names we use on GN. One has expressed interest so I would know at least one person.

Think this is a brilliant idea, especially for us on our own who would love to go on holiday/cruise, but have no one to go with.

Really like Izzywizzys proposal. Also would like an overnight stay at a spa or a Q hotel with the chance to meet other people.
