Airport Chaos

The reason I rarely, if ever, fly is not for environmental reasons, but because I so loathe airports.

I have to ask myself why have all these people been travelling given the conditions worldwide----then moan about conditions at airports ?

Well, it is currently the end of half term for many schools, hence the crowds

Maybe thousands of those travellers are twoing and froing for work, just as you do.

A few possibly. But a lot of them are on packages.

Unfortunately I've to-ed but may not be able to fro. I will risk a flight with low viral rates or an emergency but not otherwise. Certainly not for a holiday.

I'm not going anywhere.

But with the spike in cases in Europe even more reason not to go unless for a good reason. Our neighbour has to fly to Zurich regularly for work.
Stay safe in Switzerland, Gagajo, it sounds very worrying there. Have any of your students gone home or have they stayed at school?

We're poised for announcements tomorrow. Some students won't be able to leave.

If more people read reports like this they might be more reluctant to fly. The flight had only 17% occupancy, yet 13 passengers caught Covid,

I am so tired and depressed at the moment I would really like to go on a short break to Portugal or my favourite quiet canary island. I'm seriously thinking of taking slightly early retirement so that the fact or possibility of a quarantine requirement on my return does not inconvenience my colleagues. The only things that bring me a joy now are seeing my sons (now prohibited) or a meal out - preferably somewhere the covid restrictions are not being taken too seriously, and the atmosphere is not too sterile. If the stop us enjoying Christmas I'd happily join any mass rebellion going.

Many of us are tired and depressed at the moment, unable to see our families, with some of us enjoying poor health, into the bargain.
I too would love a holiday, but would not dream of having one. I have already cancelled two holidays abroad. No-one should be considering travel abroad, unless absolutely essential. I just don't understand this need to travel in the present circumstances.
We all need to put on our big girl pants and work together if not to eradicate it, but at least to slow the spread.

We should be flying to Africa to see eldest AC next week, but have decided not to go. Haven't seen eldest GC since we took them to the airport beginning of January.

It is not against the law (at the moment) to fly if folks are willing to take the risk, and self isolate on their return if need be, that is their choice.

In the case I mentionned- the people wanted to cancel the holiday booked a long time ago. But the Travel Agents assured them everything was organised to cut risk to absolute minimum. And it was- right up to when they arrived at Greek airport to return. Hence their dismay and concerned. They certainly would not travel now that they know the risks.

GrannyGravy, that's true. However, there are people who do not self isolate on return. There was a case of a doctor in Glasgow, who had deliberately gone straight back to work, without self isolating, after returning from a holiday abroad. It was three days before the hospital authorities discovered this.
To make matters worse, he was responsible for the care of elderly and vulnerable patients in a major Glasgow hospital.
How many more people are guilty of this kind of behaviour and are never found out?

My neighbours got back from Greece two weeks ago and said everything was very well organised and they felt very safe. They have quarantined for 14 days.

I struggle to understand why someone wouldn’t think an airport wouldn’t be a disaster right now.

The Doctor should have known better, no excuse!!

All of Spain is in red zone now and visitors required to self-isolate on return to UK- apart from Canaries. So the airports there are going to be a nightmare.

No embarrassment about going away last week near where we live- we drove there in one go, had self catering apartment with plenty of food, walked in the mountains in fresh air in the middle of nowhere- and hate a couple of times in restaurants out in fresh air on terrasse- with large distances between tables, and everyone moving around wearing masks. Then drove home in one go. No problem.

Flying now, no way. And neither going anywhere indoors or crowded.
