I am desperate for a visit to the UK am an ex, pat and havent been able to visit since October last year, but heyho last night I heard from next week we wont need to quarantine, what a relief, now I can visit my beloved UK and meet friends at last. am not desperate for a holiday, just to be in England again.

British holidays are overpriced abyway they always have been- if you go Butlins or similar you can pay up to 15-1600 pounds for a family of up to 4 in peak season- so theoretically you could possibly go abroad for less.

I think its madness that there's to be NO quarantine into/out of Britain (or indeed anywhere) at a time when Covid is still on increase in its various strains though.?

We won’t be travelling outside the UK this year but would very much like to do so when the time is right. We have looked forward to our retirement and the opportunity to travel more. We have had 3 breaks in the UK, one last year and 2 this year. Yes there are lovely places to go. It’s not cheap though. When the weather is good all the nice places are so crowded as there are always day trippers as well as those on holiday. When the weather isn’t nice I’d rather be at home. I know some will say that they find very quiet places but that doesn’t appeal to us. We like day trips to country places but don’t want to stay there. It’s important to us to have a break from routine and chores. We don’t feel this is available to us in this country. Of course that is our opinion.

Me neither! My DH was a cop for 30 years and REALLY needed a total break away from the junk he had to deal with on a daily basis in Manchester. But it was ONE 2week break! Not 3/4/5 forays abroad! I don't see the utterly obsessive way people bang on about going abroad? Every image shows people standing around in sea/beach/bars/greasy pavement cafés in blazing cancer Inducing sun, or getting blasted in tacky filthy unsafe venues!! Really? Or sitting in a villa garden again boozed up to the gunnels! No wonder the world sees us as a nation of out of controlled boozers, ALL the talk of lock down and restrictions lifting is ALL about "when can we go out/abroad/onhols again-so we can get drunk!!!" Never heard of 'a change is a good as a rest'? Staying home enjoying your surroundings, resting. Seeing family talking and laughing. Winding down.and in some instances doing some flipping housework! We're not the most houseproud nation either.i remember rabbit-sitting for neighbours frequently who were a bit loaded, and noticed how grubby and frankly yukky their home was. I know it's personal taste but I called it what it was. All fur coat and no knickers!? Spend yer dosh on something worthwhile , not the drinks industries share premiums!!!!

Dinahmo triggered some memories from my past mentioning Walberswick. I used to go to Southwold every year as a child. Haven't been for a long, long time. Might venture there this year it holds a special place in my heart. Not one for foreign travel but anyone wanting to enjoy yourselves.

Its NOT the same as flu, i was very very ill xmas 2019-temp 103 was taken to hosp (twice) and treated with both antibiotics AND antivirals, just in case, (in case of 'what' was never disclosed) but now G.P.'s nurse is convinced it was covid (family got it too) and i did indeed feel like i could just die.Took me over a week to get out of bed, then i still weren't better, but both sons were ill by then so I'd no choice.4 weeks before i even ventured out again.I'm still not 100% and i still get breathless, and pains etc.But how can you prove 'long covid' if you 'officially' weren't diagnosed with covid??

Like kittylester I don't understand why anyone would be 'desperate' for a holiday at present. It's probably one of those things that we want because it's not possible.
I really want to see my family who I have not been able to visit since 2019. Fortunately they are all ok and no health issues otherwise I would be desperate.

British weathers been bad this year. I don’t think the risk of catching Covid abroad is any higher than catching it here. Sadly if you’re vulnerable or worried, probably best to stay at home.

I understand being 'desperate for a holiday'. We've been to a few places in B&Bs & hotels in various parts of the UK this year, but it's just not the same as going abroad. A foreign holiday to me is a proper holiday. Hoping to go to one of the Greek islands in the autumn, depending on the situation at the time.

Nanniejude having Covid on holiday is a lot different to getting it at home ?

Have not read all comments above. I think we need to rethink travel in view of climate change....

Nannan2 I was desperately ill Xmas 19 , carted off to hospital in an ambulance unable to breathe and took months to recover . Also told that it was too early to have been Covid but I’m sure it was. Hope you feel better soon ?
