Escaping the UK winter — have you ever thought about a longer stay in Italy?

I'm working on a project with a simple but heartfelt idea: what if retiring didn't mean slowing down, but actually meant the freedom to live differently — perhaps spending a few winter months by the Italian sea, surrounded by good food, warm weather and real community?

I'd love to hear from those of you who are retired or approaching retirement. Have you ever thought about escaping the UK winter for a longer stay abroad? What would make you feel safe and comfortable doing it? What would hold you back?
