Wasn't Ben Hur fun last night? Hugh Bonneville revelling in being a baddie, but poor Stephen Campbell Moore. He was so gorgeous in The History Boys, now nothing left but those beautiful eyes. Why did they choose a blond boy with the bluest of blue eyes for Judah? Not sure I remember the glamourous Greek from the original, but it's a long time since I saw it. Was the book not written by a Pole? My children always tease me about my passion for Biblical beefcake. Comes from being a convent girl in the 50s. We could always persuade the nuns to let us go to the pictures if it was something like The Robe, so educational! Quo Vadis was my first X film. Very thrilling.smilesmile

The grossest bit of miscasting I have ever seen was to give the part of Quintus Arrius to Ray Winstone - he can't seem to play any part without that awful Cockney twang. They would have been better giving that part to Hugh Bonneville. As for Stephen Campbell Moore's blue eyes, Charlton Heston was a blue eyed Judah, and they gave Stephen Boyd brown contacts so that they would contrast with each other. I thought it was good fun too, on the whole, but nothing could match the big budget excitement of the film. I don't remember the Greek lady either; bit of artistic licence I suppose. I have a passion for sword and sandal epics too! I remember going to the cinema to see Quo Vadis with my father while I was still at school, but bits of it kept me awake at nights! I wrote an essay about it. I adored anything with Robert Taylor in it.
