Product placement on TV

Has any one noticed that before the start of Coronation Street the letter P is sometimes shown
I know that product placement is when a company pays a TV channel or a programme-maker to include its products or brands in a programme, so the letter P shown at the start of the programme will include a well known brand somewhere within the scene
Now here is the thing that is bothering me... I spend so much time trying to `spot` the brand that I miss the whole story line ! hmm

No you are not alone - when I first became aware of the 'P' I did play Spot the Product for a while but saw nothing ! I have recently noticed that some programmes are now mentioning shops etc by name. Does this also come under the heading of product placement? EG 'The crackers are from Poundland, not Harvey Nic's'. Not so much lost the plot as being distracted from the plot!

It's a bit like those films/plays when posh people in London took a cab to Harridges in Knightsbridge. I have such a blank spot about advertising that I wouldn't notice much anyway, but I am always aware when a computer is an Apple Mac – one of my few bits of brand loyalty.

I noticed Rosie brandishing a bag of Maltesers for Sophie on Corrie last night. I wonder when it will get to the stage of the products dominating the script?

Now that's a thought for next year's GN panto - could we get sponsorship?

Better not let the ugly sisters sponsor Maybelline (maybe it's Maybelline) grin
