Parade's End

I nodded off a few times and am still finding it tedious. Given that it has been getting rave reviews am I just thick? And I find Benedict Cumberpatch very wooden, even though he is acting the most wooden character since Pinocchio [and even he became a real boy eventually; I doubt if Mr Cumberpatch is going to, at least not in this series] .

I just couldn't be bothered with it this week, it seems a bit pointless.

But why are all the newspaper reviewers raving about it? Is it an 'Emperor's New Clothes' thing? And we're the little boy in the crowd ....

Goodness knows! But it is a BBC production.....

I've been unsure as to whether I really like it but I have to say the unrequited love between Christopher Tietjens and Valentine Wannop is beautifully portrayed. Far more meaningful than the will they won't they cheesy nonsense between Matthew and Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey.

I am finding it both addictive and difficult to hear properly. Goodness me but you are so right merlotgran about the electricity between Christopher and Valentine.

I've just read a review that was in yesterdays Independent and have read some incredibly clever dialogue that completely passed me by. Why is the sound so bad [or is it my hearing these days?]. Perhaps that's why I enjoy programmes with subtitles so much?

I actually forgot to watch the last episode [I was watching Fairport Convention on BBC4]. Did I miss anything?

I only caught a bit of it, but was fascinated by DC's dark roots in one scene! Why has he got to be blond? Is it in the book?

I think when one starts looking at things like that in a tv programme there's something wrong with the programme itself. However, I may have to iplayer it just to check out the dark roots. Possibly the most interesting thing to have happened in it's 4 weeks. Then may have to watch the others again to see if dark roots are different in each episode [eg when the time shifts do the roots change with it]?

Yes! In the next scene, his roots weren't showing....

Darn it; I'll have to watch it now . I always wanted to be a continuity girl when I was young [wasn't sure what it was but it sounded good and I like spotting faults in films and suchlike; spotted one in the film I saw tonight!].

Finished watching the last part of "Parade's End" yesterday, and we both enjoyed it very much. At times I found I had been holding my breath, waiting for the first kiss/lie/outrageous statement/gorgeous dress! I don't usually like BC, but really enjoyed him in this, although at times he did speak rather like Derek Jacobi in "I, Claudius"!
By the way, first time I saw the delicious Mr R. was in "Die Hard" when he played the villain again!
