Well, not a bad assortment although one is definitely a clone of last years chap ... Bernard or similar. Who do you think will make Mr Hollywood smile?

can't do it I am afraid. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh - she actually sounds very intelligent but does defend herself an awful lot. Tuesday's Guardian online

merlotgran Wed 23-Oct-13 22:48:47

It's here *Flower*

Flowerofthewest Wed 23-Oct-13 22:44:34

Anyone read Ruby's diatribe in the Guardian. Will try to post it. Not sure how though.

Deedaa Wed 23-Oct-13 21:16:58

Last Saturday I was helping DD decorate her son's birthday cake in the shape of the new Skylanders Portal (Ask your grandchildren!) It looked brilliant but she thought she'd made an awful mess of it. She felt so much better after she'd seen the Bake Off wedding cakes grin

HildaW Wed 23-Oct-13 15:00:59

Frances was the correct choice on the night (in my humble opinion).
Mind you I watched the preceding program about last years contestants and had forgotten it had been an all male final. Funnily enough do not seem to remember there're being quite so much rampant press attention of the relative (perceived) personalities of the chaps involved.

annodomini Wed 23-Oct-13 12:38:36

Cari, next time you decorate a cake, please post a picture so that we can judge for ourselves. grin

merlotgran Wed 23-Oct-13 10:42:40

I thought Ruby's cake looked like a seven year old had decorated it and Kimberly's was disappointingly plain.

Frances was so good at the finishing touches throughout the series that she should be given her own programme demonstrating sugar craft and other presentation skills. Out of all the BBO winners I think she was the most talented in that area.

Funny how the judges criticised her flavours until the last round. We only have their word that her food was bland. We could see that she was an artistic baker.

Weren't they? On the plus side they made me feel that my own cake decorating efforts weren't half bad!

Granart Wed 23-Oct-13 09:53:48

I was surprised but pleased Frances won. The other wedding cakes were a bit sad.

Flowerofthewest Tue 22-Oct-13 22:52:30

Loved Frances' cake and so glad she won. She deserved it.

merlotgran Tue 22-Oct-13 22:37:44

Here's how to knot a pretzel Hairy Biker Style

Deedaa Tue 22-Oct-13 22:04:52

Frances did make a very pretty cake!

Deedaa Tue 22-Oct-13 22:04:13

I was sitting there trying to imagine the shape of a pretzel and work out how you would twist it merlot smile

Ana Tue 22-Oct-13 22:03:41

Yes, must admit I was rather disappointed with Beverley's - so much work went into it but it did look a bit drab.

annodomini Tue 22-Oct-13 21:46:58

She was always imaginative and in the final she made the prettiest wedding cake by far.

Ana Tue 22-Oct-13 21:28:45

And me, Cari....[hurt emoticon]

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 22-Oct-13 21:25:40

merlot agree. And Frances's stuff has been pretty amazing all the way through

merlotgran Tue 22-Oct-13 21:11:52

Just how DO you knot a pretzel?? thlconfused

merlotgran Tue 22-Oct-13 21:10:15

HURRAH!!!

I was rooting for Kimberly but Frances was a very worthy winner cupcake wine thlgrin

Ana Tue 22-Oct-13 21:09:06

Hooray! So glad Frances won - she really deserved it! smile

HildaW Tue 22-Oct-13 17:11:20

Me too Annodomini - spoilers are mean.

I agree that there has been some clever editing to heighten the drama, but it has been used on ALL of the competitors.

annodomini Tue 22-Oct-13 17:03:31

Of course, it's all done and dusted months ago. I wonder how they can manage to maintain the secrecy. I do hope that was a red herring from Raymond Blanc.

Mamie Tue 22-Oct-13 16:23:29

I like Kimberley too, think she is by far the most competent and has been unfairly edited so that she seems competitive. I fear it will be Droopy Ruby though.

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 22-Oct-13 16:17:34

Me too. Apart from ruining tonight's suspense I would prefer Kimberley - I like her food and I like her attitude. She makes me smile

merlotgran Tue 22-Oct-13 16:11:48

Same here, Cari but I read yesterday that Raymond Blanc has 'let slip' on twitter that Ruby wins.

I hope it's a wind up.
