GO, DOLLY!!

Jut listened to Dolly on iplayer while I watched the tennis and she was very good. When she was touring the other year I wanted to see her but didn't go; when I saw a recording of the concert a lot of it seemed quite slow but this one was very upbeat. Her musicians are very good. I'd like to see her with Robert Plant, the way he performs with Alison Krauss. Perhaps next year [?].

She still camps.

My cousin (now 67) has been every year.

I'm afraid I couldn't do the camping bit these days and any other sort of accommodation is very expensive there but I too desperately want to go. I went to one of the early Festivals in that area; not sure if it was Glastonbury but, for some reason decided to hitch home instead of staying. A friend who used to play there used to say I could go with them but I had young children at the time so couldn't go. I wish they'd change the presenters on the BBC; some of them I found totally irritating. John Peel's son, Tom Ravenscroft is so like his dad and I feel he should be there and Lauren Laverne is wonderful. I'm struggling to find repeats of most of it, although there is a two hour special on BBC2 on Friday night. I used to discover a lot of new bands from watching Glastonbury [eg Amadou and Mariam] but that hasn't happened for a while. I checked out Arcade Fire on iplayer and they were, as expected, incredibly good. I think their live shows are better than Kasabians and it wouldn't surprise me to see them do some sort of collaboration with Cirque du Soleil one day having similar influences from what must be their French Canadian background; very theatrical.

Always wanted to go to Glastonbury.Keep asking friends/family if they want to go but they look at me as if I am mad !(except DD). Many of the audience looked as old as me anyway!

As far as I know Kasabian have always stuck together as a band and are very close to their Leicester roots [played there recently and I think sometimes do small gigs for the locals]. Tom is married with kids [he's an amazing frontman] and I can't take my eyes off Sergio [as a music loving friend once said to me 'of course, you must fancy Sergio; everyone else does ]. If it wasn't for the swearing they would be too squeaky clean and not enought rock and roll. What did it for me was listening to a track on West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum that started with a quote from Sans Soleil, one of my favourite films; dawned on me there was a lot more depth to the band than I'd realised.They were very moved by headlining Glastonbury. I haven't watched Arcade Fire yet [we were away this weekend]; they are the best band I've ever seen live; that is, until they walked off stage when someone threw a bottle of water at them. OK it wasn't a nice thing to do but we'd all paid a lot of money to see them and the whole thread of the concert was lost when they eventually agreed to come back onstage. However, going back to the original thread, Dolly is a force of nature and an incredible songwriter; Jolene [sp] will always be one of my favourite songs ever.

ruby I love that song because I can identify with it . My mother sewed for us and she made me a dress when I was a teenager that I was so proud of and I got teased mercilessly when I wore it because it was "home made". She had used up bits of "remnant" material. That's another word you never hear any more!

She was fantastic, the best song was about her coat of many colours her mama made for her, beautiful song, beautifully sang and wonderful sentiment.

Hi Tegan fellow Kasabian fan and rosequartz yeah I do agree all the effin and jeffin isn't good but I suppose they've always been like that, even renowned for it I think - ah well, aww I thought they were sweet with their happy birthday rendition to their technical guy (roadie) or whoever he was - see they redeemed themselves

I can't stand country music, but she was wonderful wasn't she? I also enjoyed Metallica on Saturday.

Another Kasabian fan here although I was so tired last night I fell asleep part way through their set. I don't know of another band that have so many good songs; rarely a duff track on any of their albums [I've been playing the latest one non stop since I bought it]. Hoping to catch up with it on iplayer, but do agree that Tom could have missed out the swearing. It took them a long time to get away from the 'just like Oasis' image [their music and lyrics are far superior anyway]. I didn't think the sound quality was very good, either [although difficult to tell from watching on the telly, but it was also far too loud when we went to see them at the Ice Stadium the other year]. As rose and upsydaisy have said, anyone that has been put off by the language, please give their music another go; imo they are head and shoulders above all the other bands at the moment.

Thanks for the recommendation kittylester I might give it a go. I love all sorts of music and thought that Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott (of the Beautiful South fame) did a brilliant version of Islands in the Stream on the TV before Dolly came on.

However, I did like some of their stuff, only recognised one of the songs before I went to bed, didn't think the bad language was necessary - not that I'm a prude but don't like to hear it used as adjectives.

Have to keep up a bit as DD2 is part of the music scene.

I thought the TV coverage of Glasto this year was pretty poor. Hardly saw any of it but when I did search it out it always seemed to be someone I didn't know.

Yesterday afternoon while looking to see when Kasabian were on I found Dolly. I'm really not a lover of country at all but left it on for a while. I turned off in the end, I thought the whole point was to sing? Not tell stories.

Kasabian were totally justified in being the headline act. They were brilliant (not that I'm biased) they have just gone from strength to strength over the years. It was watching Glastonbury on TV years ago that I first came across Kasabian and have loved all their music ever since. Went to see them at the MEN (now 02) in Manchester for my 50th birthday. Was so hesitant about going, thought me and hubby would be the oldest people there but again they attracted all age ranges.

Pittcity I suggest you try and listen to some tracks from her 'Little Sparrow' album especially the title track.

I have said before that I love the stories in Country songs [even the corniest!] and there are some brilliant stories on her albums!

I thought she was miming - her throat didn't move at all. several others on Facebook thought the same.

Perhaps she wasn't the headline act because she was in the 'legend slot'. Because she IS a legend! She drew the biggest crowd, apparently, appealing to all ages.

Watched it on iPlayer late last night and couldn't help singing along, even to the songs I didn't know. I think she appeals to everyone, I wouldn't say I would pay to see her or even for a record but Dolly is "bigger than big" and the crowd yesterday proved it

We commented on the talking but it's done to give herself a breather between songs. It was a long set and she was on the go all the time. I'd love half her energy! Her singing was fresh, tone and pitch perfect with some clever breathy singing to disguise any tricky phrasing.

A real pro.

DH bought me tickets for the NEC and came along under sufferance (bless). He was totally converted. There was some talking but it was mostly pure musical brilliance.

It's just me then Was she actually playing those instruments ??

I read on FB that a friends in-laws walked out of her O2 performance because it was 70% talking.
