JL Christmas ad

The supermarket ads for Christmas that I've seen so far, seem a bit messy to me. I don't think this JL ad is as good as usual either.

One thing for sure, no matter how much we might like (or not) all the Christmas ads that are now hitting our screens, as it's still only just November, we'll be sick of the sight of them by Christmas.

I liked last year's as but fell that this one crosses the cuteness boundary too far for me. Never mind though. It's long enough to enable us to go and make a brew/go to the loo while it's on!

I agree, vegasmags. We seem to be getting used to being force fed the run up to various events until we're zombified.

I'm from a forces family so I'm not being disrespectful but why does the run up to Remembrance Sunday start so early these days? After a constant assault on our emotions we'll wake up totally drained on Monday morning and then we'll be pitched straight into Children in Need at every twist and turn. After that there'll be no holding back....Christmas adverts, music, cooking, tear jerkers on the telly.....Roll on Boxing Day!!

I love Christmas but hate the hype.

I showed the youtube version to my 16yr. old DGD. She watched, commented it was cute and then said "I don't get it"! Brian Connelly came into my mind for some reason, and I found myself saying "It's a puppet". She repeated her response. I said "It's a stuffed toy, coupled with with his imagination". Aah she said and walked off.

Ah I was looking at the wrong one - I'm thinking snowman and you're all talking penguins. seen it now don't like the music at all hate it when someone cant hit their notes apparently my DH (aged 10) loves it so it must good. shut up grumpy old Nanna going on about the tune!!

Someone has just sent me the recut JL ad with the soundtrack replaced by The Babadook- funny if you have a dark sense of humour like me.

You wait for one Christmas advert, and then 3 come along at once.

I'll leave the Debenhams' link. It features Macca's abysmal Frog Chorus and a bunch of badly behaved kids trashing a store. Also little girls showing age inappropriate interest in make-up and shoes. I think this Christmas enthusiast has finally found her bah humbug moment.

Like the M & S one. The humour, the fairies and music are all appealing. X

Nope! Neither of those do anything for me. Bored with the usual Marks and Sparks thin glamorous women. Waitrose one did n't quite hit the spot. Too Waitrose-y.

I think I like the JL one so much because it doesn't seem to be advertising anything.

I don't like the parody one. It's really mean.

I watched the advert this morning, on Facebook, I loved it. I'm with a those posters who want a bit of Christmas cheer, and with Soutra who advises us not to over think things.

Jingle - you've had it girl, your children will no doubt see the advert, and expect mum to know exactly where their (ex) penguin is, and have it washed and ready for them in an instant. A mother's place is where they want us to be

You could always bid for one on e-bay, jingl. They're going for £499 apparently because JL has run out of stock...

Considering the pretty good bonuses Jl and Waitrose have had recently I don't think the Christmas ads will be knocking much of a hole in the profits.

John Lennon's version of the song is so much better, although the original draft was about giving children lots of toys and no time, the lyrics were changed by the rest of the Beatles and this is the one used on the advert, but by someone who can't sing.

Why would a little boy want his penguin friend have another friend, then he won't play with him but go off with his new friend, although it does look like a mate for him which is a bit disturbing for a childrens advert. I love penguins and will be buying one from the sanctuary which Paul O'Grady visited in his series over the summer. They sell soft toys. Then the sanctuary benefits too and not a multi billion organisation, John Lewis.

I don't much care for the idea that a child's toy would want a 'mate' either.

It's not a patch on previous JL Christmas ads, IMO.

I prefer the Waitrose one to the JL one, but don't tell the members of my family who are partners!

The teddybear shop,where I live, has several penguins in the window display. How fortuitous.

Like Aldi's ad, it's clever and ends with Jools Holland. x
