We used to like pointless, but the childish banter between the presenters is starting to ruin the show for us. Has anyone else noticed it and/or annoyed by it. Or is it us just getting grumpy.

Soutra Thu 07-May-15 18:42:57

Still enjoy it!

merlotgran Thu 07-May-15 18:43:07

Yes. It annoys us as well. A bit of 'filling' is acceptable but they seem to think they're more entertaining than the quiz now.

Bogoff Thu 07-May-15 18:46:47

It only seems to have become childish over the last couple of months.

loopylou Thu 07-May-15 18:48:56

I don't watch this but the 'Pointless Celebrities' programme name makes me laugh- never a truer word!
Didn't anyone think before calling it this?
grin

Eloethan Thu 07-May-15 19:06:17

I quite enjoy it, but agree the "banter* is a bit annoying and Alexander Armstrong seems to be on auto pilot - "you've been wonderful contestants", etc. etc.

merlotgran Thu 07-May-15 19:25:56

The Quiz show that leaves us speechless at the moment is Decimate. It's on in the afternoon when we grab a cuppa so we haven't watched it all the way through but they are the thickest contestants we've ever seen. Occasionally one of them gives the right answer and the quiz master becomes almost hysterical with praise, jumping up and down, shouting, 'GET IN' and punching the air.

At least the BBC doesn't have to part with the prize money very often. hmm

Deedaa Thu 07-May-15 20:28:34

I imagine the "Pointless Celebrities" title was completely intentional loopylou grin

HildaW Thu 07-May-15 21:02:56

Love it......even all Alexander's repetitions....somehow its all so quaintly 'British' - nobody is being nasty, snide or avaricious. All the winners seem genuinely pleased no matter what the prize.

Lilygran Thu 07-May-15 21:44:16

I love it, banter and all. I particularly like the way Armstrong and Osman send up pretentious contestants (usually male university students) and how nice they are to the nervous contestants who aren't doing so well. I agree, ''Celebrities" is a Joy.

rubylady Thu 07-May-15 23:58:58

I just want a break from geography and sport questions. They seem to use these every day. That's why I stopped watching for a while.

NfkDumpling Fri 08-May-15 07:35:45

Still quite like it. I wish though they would give the contestants who get a second pointless answer in the final round an extra £250.

PRINTMISS Fri 08-May-15 09:05:37

We love it, it sort of sets the theme for the rest of the evening, when we may or may not watch t.v. The banter I quite enjoy, never sure if it is rehearsed or instant, but in some cases very clever. I like the way they really appreciate the young people with a lot of knowledge, and give encouragement. I agree there should be a 'runner-up' prize of some sort, perhaps a smaller version of the 'coveted Pointless trophy?

rosesarered Fri 08-May-15 20:45:09

Mr Roses commented on this extra banter tonight, I hadn't noticed but he says there is much more than usual. I wonder if it's to give the contestants a few mins to think of answers? Mr Roses notices all kinds of things, he should have been a detective, me, the opposite. We enjoy giving the little grey cells a workout, so follow this up with Eggheads( does Kevin know everything!)

pompa Fri 08-May-15 20:49:10

We are addicted to it, but some of the banter it annoyingly childish. AND if Alexander says WOW again grrrr

Yours truly
VM

I used to love the show, but to be honest I have become thoroughly irritated by Alexander Armstrong, which is a shame because I used to like him. Yes, the over use of 'wow', so irritating! But it's his insincerity, you know, the way he asks people what they do, and when they tell him he'll say "Excellent!" and then move straight on. So bloody patronising. Yeah, GOW, that's me wink

petra Sat 09-May-15 09:17:11

Different programme, I know, but has anyone else noticed how dim Jeramy Vine is ? ( Egg heads) Even the Egg head team snigger at him sometimes, especially CJ.

Rosannie Sat 09-May-15 09:30:30

I too was particularly irritated last night, I actually said Someone should tell those two that the show is not all about them ' I agree that they are patronising and insincere.
We actually stopped watching Pointless and switched to the Chase because Bradley Walsh is witty, spontaneous and genuinely engages with the contestants. It's not on at the moment though so we reverted to Pointless and I now remember why we were turned off by it.
Richard is also a bit less attractive since he slimmed down sad

pompa Sat 09-May-15 09:30:50

Doesn't CJ snigger at everyone ?

cazthebookworm Sat 09-May-15 09:31:56

Ashtree, my sentiments exactly!! He is so insincere. It is almost as though he has learnt a script of by heart, and repeats, and repeats, and repeats it. You might just as well have a robot presenting the programme.

pompa Sat 09-May-15 09:35:37

WE stopped watching The Chase because after several seasons we got a bit bored with the format. Bradley Walsh is a gem, love it when he losses the plot. It's difficult to imagine how he can play Ronnie Brooks in Law & Order UK.

cazthebookworm Sat 09-May-15 09:43:06

A different character all together, Bradley Walsh, much more "human." Even though he has to keep to the show's format, he makes it much more spontaneous, and when he gets the giggles, it is so infectious. grin

Rosannie Sat 09-May-15 10:12:57

That's the point Pompa, Alexander NEVER loses the plot and the format of Pointless is even more predictable right down to the words the presenters say. The contestants very rarely get any opportunity to show their personalities unlike Chase were you get a selection of characters - brainboxes, dimwits and sometimes real fruitcakes!
I totally agree about CJ in eggheads, sniggering and often snearing, I'm ashamed to say I sometimes want to slap that smirk of his faceblush

Lilygran Sat 09-May-15 10:14:39

Bradley Walsh is a good presenter, I agree. But we stopped watching because the contestants are obviously encouraged to be challenging to the Chasers and it's embarrassing and irritating when they can't answer any of the questions. The contestants on Pointless usually do know a lot and the brilliant format means the questions can be really simple but demand a real depth of knowledge.

KatyK Sat 09-May-15 10:16:15

I've never liked Pointless. I find it uninteresting and really do find it pointless smile
