A story of mud, boots and strong ( not over clean) characters, dealing out random violence, yes, definitely a Western, even if set on t'moors.

Surely a "Yorkshire Western" is called a Northern? grin

Nelliemoser Fri 08-Jan-16 16:07:16

There wasn't even any tumble weed bouncing along t'moors.! grin

Gillybob* Yes that's Catherine Cookson I reckon this story will end like that.

I saw a trailer and noticed the actress from Call the Midwife which put me off. Sometimes I like a new series to have a cast that I don't associate with other programmes. I'll still give it a go tonight [if I can find it; have realised that I rarely watch ITV these days].

Ads didn't entice me to even give it a try.

(or any of those chick-lit for the older lady authors)

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 08-Jan-16 14:13:23

Accent apart, it feels Catherine Cookson-ish. But a bit more ambitious. grin

Never read her novels but seem to recall being fascinated by her autobiography a long time ago. Worth a read [must have got it from a library cause don't seem to own a copy].

Nothing like Catherine Cookson jings

I didn't hear one single Geordie accent in the whole thing.

"du yu know wharra mean like?"

CC =lord of the manor or the owner of a pit's son falls for poor (but pretty) girl. Girl swirls her skirts and heaves her ample bosom. She gets pregnant and outcast. Lord of the manor finds her. They all live happily ever after in "the big hoos" smile

It was awful. I stopped watching it when they descended low enough to show a child being beaten up by a man.

It's rubbish. And yes. Definitely Catherine Cookson-ish.

It was on ITV Tegan, I enjoyed but kept expecting covered wagons to come over the hilltops..grin I'll give it another go next week.

Tegan Fri 08-Jan-16 12:40:26

Which channel? Looked for it last night but couldn't find it.

gillybob Fri 08-Jan-16 12:36:17

I watched it too. Not sure yet though.

I'm going to give it another go next week.

We enjoyed it, will definitely watch next week. Agree about the wig though!

Not sure....I'll give it another go next week.

I gave up after about 20 minutes. It looked like someone had just imported an American settlers movie story and set it in Yorkshire. They could not even get convincing accents. Too Catherine Cookson for me.

Has anyone else watched this? I quite enjoyed it (despite Annie's dreadful wig). There were echoes of Catherine Cookson and it would have been nice to see Sean Bean in it, but there were twists and turns in the ploy and the costumes were good.
