I miss the old Barnaby and Joyce. Just saying...

annsixty Sat 23-Jan-16 19:40:59

I much prefer the new one. Tom was too much of a social climber and was on first name terms with all the great and the good. Joyce belonged to every club and society going and couldn't possibly have had all those interests

Must admit I prefer the new one too though I've always thought he's a bit old to have that baby.

Ana Sat 23-Jan-16 19:48:29

Joyce was certainly a pain. And Barnaby was getting a bit stodgy. But we were used to them...grin

merlotgran Sat 23-Jan-16 19:58:20

I thought the old ones were funny. Joyce's terrible cooking and Barnaby often asking, 'Cully, What are you doing here?' when his unemployed actress daughter turned up.

Cute baby in the new one though and Sykes acts everyone else off the screen.

Sadiesnan Sat 23-Jan-16 20:07:56

Where did they get that name Cully?

Katek Sat 23-Jan-16 20:24:24

Trying to remember some of Joyce's activities...landscape painting, stage manager, fete organiser, flower arranging, choir, did she not even drive the mobile library at one point?!

Sadiesnan Sat 23-Jan-16 20:31:37

I loved the family life story going on in the background. I can't warm to the new Barnaby and his wife.

merlotgran Sat 23-Jan-16 20:38:58

I love the new house though. Joyce's interior design talents ranked alongside her cooking.

annsixty Sat 23-Jan-16 21:18:21

And do policemen earn so much, as Joyce never worked and their standard of living and house were very good?

Deedaa Sat 23-Jan-16 22:14:50

I like the new Barnaby, but he and his wife seem an ill assorted pair. Hope we don't see too much of the baby - it is still supposed to be a crime series after all. But I do love Sykes!

Jalima Sat 23-Jan-16 23:04:29

Around £55,000 pa I think smile

Perhaps they inherited money, as they never seemed to have any relatives apart from the daughter (even when they had a party they invited work colleagues!).

Jalima Sat 23-Jan-16 23:06:21

or perhaps Tom got paid a lot of overtime as there was so much crime going on he was always working?

rosesarered Sun 24-Jan-16 08:59:25

I miss Tom, but not Joyce, what a wet blanket she was!
Sykes is my favourite character tbh in the new version, the new Barnaby lacks charm.

AyjayF Sun 24-Jan-16 09:29:26

Noticed too that after criticism it was ' too white' has turned into a meeting of the United Nations!

Teetime Sun 24-Jan-16 09:35:25

I agree Joyce was a pain being the leading light in everything but then again she might be true to life - I suspect many of us have met a 'Joyce'. New Mrs B is a bit of pain in her way too - bit smart but love her baby and Sykes. Mr B could do with losing some weight.

Sadiesnan Sun 24-Jan-16 12:03:58

Yes, I've noticed how multi-cultural the cast are now.

Charleygirl Sun 24-Jan-16 16:38:34

I also love Sykes.

katie1 Tue 26-Jan-16 18:31:04

I love the new house too and Sykes. Cully definitely drove the Mobile Library van, when Troy was the sergeant.

Ana Tue 26-Jan-16 18:33:23

I thought Cully was an aspiring actress...don't remember her driving the mobile library van though!

katie1 Tue 26-Jan-16 19:39:13

She did once, in between acting jobs.Jalima's, Joyce's parents stayed one Christmas and Tom's aunt was in a residential home when lo and behold there was, yes you guessed it, a murder!

katie1 Tue 26-Jan-16 19:40:41

Jalima not Jalima's

Katek Tue 26-Jan-16 19:41:07

I meant it was Joyce who drove the library van.

katie1 Tue 26-Jan-16 19:50:12

I just remember Cully driving the library van.

Jalima Tue 26-Jan-16 19:51:39

Do you remember the actor Patrick Wymark?
He was Joyce's father (in RL)
