Just watched this first instalment but was intrigued by Anna Friels strange appearance which was a bit distracting.. Her face doesn't move at all, her lips look weird, she appears androgynous, her emotions are all shown in her eyes, they still move, but that is all, it quite spoilt it for me. I had to look away at the violent scenes a bit too much for me. Think I will watch it though.

Did anyone see the last episode of Marcella? It seemed to leave so many questions unanswered.

Eloethan Thu 19-May-16 22:56:00

I was a fool to carry on watching it. It was absolute rubbish - and incomprehensible rubbish at that.

Like Undercover, I feel a bit cheated after sticking with a very confusing storyline, only to be let down again. Is this a sign of things to come? Instead of a good gritty drama with a beginning a middle and an end with a few twists and turns, the plot now has to be mega complicated with far too many characters and an ending that either doesn't make sense or we have to wait until the next series to find out what really happened. Infuriating to say the least!

Relieved that it's finished..feel that I've wasted 8 or so hours of my life watching it (but had to stick with it). Did wonder if I would have felt differently if it had had subtitles and the main character had been an actress unknown to me.

I was not really any the wiser at the end of last night's episode. I got the impression that there maybe another series? I will not be watching it. Back to reading books I think as there is nothing much for me to watch.

Glamgran22 Wed 18-May-16 11:22:39

Watched the whole series , still not sure how so many different leads got it to last nights conculsion, maybe it's just me !

trendygran Tue 26-Apr-16 20:36:46

Watched so far but completely confused with yesterday's episode. A friend's son has appeared in 3 episodes as a 'Baddy' but couldn't make out how his character fitted in. Knew him as a teenager and brother of my DD's friend so main reason for watching.Might not bother next week. !

Yes the curtain thing ways worries us!!! There's a murderer about, or shall we have nooky? Don't bother with pulling the curtains.....doh.grin

Tegan Tue 26-Apr-16 12:25:52

Yes, I thought she'd seen herself on the CCTV. Also her husband, having paid to have himself beaten half to death goes to see his employer to ask for his job back with hardly a scratch on him [although that happens all the time in tv dramas]. And the other girl with the plastic bag over her head would surely not have survived...it was ages before Marcella got to her. Also blush why do so many people get up to things [nooky and murder] in houses with the blinds/curtains open??? I don't have my curtains/blinds open and all I tend to do is watch rubbish tv programmes.

Welshwife Tue 26-Apr-16 11:49:27

I think she was not working on the main case but was doing her own research until they discovered last night that she had looked at the CCTV of the house at the time of the murder. I thought that when she looked at it the first time she saw herself at the wheel but last night I was not sure and her estranged husband came to the house in a black car - unless he had borrowed hers.

How many brothers did the girlfriend have? Who was the bit older chap who was nuzzling up to the mother? I've forgotten that. O

Charleygirl Tue 26-Apr-16 11:39:12

Eloethan I agree and also after having had a plastic bag tied around her head she should have been taken to the local A&E rather than drive herself home to continue working on the case. She would also have been given time off to recover from the trauma. Not credible.

Eloethan Tue 26-Apr-16 11:17:33

On the credibility point, would Anna Friel's character really be allowed to continue working on this case when her estranged husband was a possible suspect? I don't know why I keep watching it - but I expect I shall stay with it now to the bitter end.

Teetime Tue 26-Apr-16 10:39:33

Me too I'm going to rewatch it tonight while himself is at Bowls.

Lazigirl Tue 26-Apr-16 10:30:18

Confused the hell out of me last night - got on DH nerves asking him who/what was happening?! Age related, or is it just confusing. Hope it's the latter......

rosesarered Tue 26-Apr-16 09:29:30

I thought the expressionless face, and the stiff way she walks and the things that she says and does, were perhaps meant to imply ASD ( popular now in tv) but there again perhaps not.

rosesarered Tue 26-Apr-16 09:26:55

I agree with you Tegan and once you doubt the credibility of what's happening it becomes just watching acting going on! To really get into a programme or a book, you have to believe in it.

Charleygirl Tue 26-Apr-16 08:05:35

I also found it confusing last night- am I losing it? I was hoping that next week was the last episode but no such luck, we have 4 more. I am aware that I do not have to watch it but I would like to see it to the bitter end.

Luckylegs9 Tue 26-Apr-16 06:30:29

Because there was nothing else on, I tried to watch it again, but found it confusing and violent, so switched over to the on line dating and fell asleep. At least it's a good night on to tonight. Think Anna Friel has not done herself any favours by giving an expressionless face, it just fascinates me.

Eloethan Tue 26-Apr-16 00:22:30

There's so much going on and so many different characters that I find it very confusing.

ninathenana Mon 25-Apr-16 23:03:48

I'm totally lost confused
Only watched because there was nothing else on.

Tegan Mon 25-Apr-16 18:50:04

Alas I have realised there are 8 episodes. Still, at least after tonight I shall be half way there. Also, how could the police not know that a suspected murderer [and one that was closely linked to what they were actually investigating] had been released from prison confused?

Charleygirl Mon 25-Apr-16 17:36:29

There is not a lot else on tonight to watch so I will continue. I agree, nobody can waltz back into a job having been away for so long without an interview/medical of some description. There are a few holes in it but I suppose that it is watchable.

Tegan Mon 25-Apr-16 15:16:10

..and what's her accent supposed to be??

Tegan Mon 25-Apr-16 15:15:41

SPOILER ALERT.I've just caught up with it; can't say I'm enjoying it but will stick with it to see what happens. Reminds me a bit of London Spy which I found a bit stylised [sp] but vacant [although the acting in that was better]. Find these murder series more palatable when they're Scandinavian and with subtitles for some reason. And can't help but be irritated by so much ineptitude on the part of the investigators. eg go to interview someone at a club but don't consider that they may escape by a back door. They are then murdered by someone who did know about the back door. That someone who had been on a career break for years would just walk back into a job [would the fact that they had been involved with a similar case really mean that wouldhappen?]. And the relationships don't seem real; Marcella and her husband don't seem to be a married couple [albeit an unhappily married couple]. I do hope there aren't too many episodes as I want to get it over and done with asap. Reminds me a bit of a BBC series that was on recently with Anne Mare Duff [which I gave up on].

NanKate Sun 10-Apr-16 20:39:49

Yes left handed I read it cover to cover grin
