Just watched this first instalment but was intrigued by Anna Friels strange appearance which was a bit distracting.. Her face doesn't move at all, her lips look weird, she appears androgynous, her emotions are all shown in her eyes, they still move, but that is all, it quite spoilt it for me. I had to look away at the violent scenes a bit too much for me. Think I will watch it though.

lucky we watched it too because it unwritten by the person who wrote The Bridge (brilliant Skandi police series). However Saga (the main character in The Bridge) she is not. Marcella I mean.

Comments on Twitter about Anna Friel's "Mallard" top lip...

Grannyknot Mon 04-Apr-16 22:33:47

Was written not unwritten.

Dratted auto correct.

Marelli Mon 04-Apr-16 22:45:07

I watched it too, and wondered if Marcella was meant to be a second Saga (Bridge). Not sure about the programme - perhaps there are just too many similar ones at the moment hmm

Nvella Tue 05-Apr-16 00:10:02

Couldn't engage with it - found it a bit boring tbh

tiredoldwoman Tue 05-Apr-16 04:55:36

I was looking forward to this but fell asleep , will i play in this afternoon , give it a second chance .

Ana Tue 05-Apr-16 10:14:10

It didn't grip me at all - can't see why it's called Marcella, surely it's about more than just her? I couldn't engage with any of the characters, was distracted by that top lip and won't be watching it again.

I decided after much dithering to not watch it, on the grounds that the trailer looked gloomy. Gloom is something I am trying to avoid as it pulls me down these days. From the above comments I'm glad I didn't watch it.

I really enjoyed it although I have to say I have never been an Anna Friel fan and I have seen her in a few things and she always gets naked at some point - why ?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 05-Apr-16 12:27:28

I found it all over the place. Very confusing. Might give it another go.

I am so surprised it was written by he same people who wrote The Bridge! I was sitting there thinking it was never going to measure up to the Skandi ones!

Greyduster Tue 05-Apr-16 12:43:26

I'm afraid I'm with Ana - couldn't have put it any better.

I think plastic surgery ( lips) had a lot to do with it.Even so, it didn't grab me at all ( loved The Bridge though.)

NanKate Sun 10-Apr-16 16:57:43

I quite enjoyed it, other than some of the poly bag and fly scenes. shock

However I am wondering why anyone thinks filling their lips with silicon or whatever filler they use, has any purpose other than to make the face look deformed.

I did read somewhere that enhancement of the lips is meant to copy the appearance of another part of the female anatomy blush

lefthanded Sun 10-Apr-16 17:55:45

Nankate have you read "The Naked Ape" by Desmond Morris? He has some interesting theories about lips (and lipstick) - and about the wearing of stiletto heels!

NanKate Sun 10-Apr-16 20:39:49

Yes left handed I read it cover to cover grin

Tegan Mon 25-Apr-16 15:15:41

SPOILER ALERT.I've just caught up with it; can't say I'm enjoying it but will stick with it to see what happens. Reminds me a bit of London Spy which I found a bit stylised [sp] but vacant [although the acting in that was better]. Find these murder series more palatable when they're Scandinavian and with subtitles for some reason. And can't help but be irritated by so much ineptitude on the part of the investigators. eg go to interview someone at a club but don't consider that they may escape by a back door. They are then murdered by someone who did know about the back door. That someone who had been on a career break for years would just walk back into a job [would the fact that they had been involved with a similar case really mean that wouldhappen?]. And the relationships don't seem real; Marcella and her husband don't seem to be a married couple [albeit an unhappily married couple]. I do hope there aren't too many episodes as I want to get it over and done with asap. Reminds me a bit of a BBC series that was on recently with Anne Mare Duff [which I gave up on].

Tegan Mon 25-Apr-16 15:16:10

..and what's her accent supposed to be??

Charleygirl Mon 25-Apr-16 17:36:29

There is not a lot else on tonight to watch so I will continue. I agree, nobody can waltz back into a job having been away for so long without an interview/medical of some description. There are a few holes in it but I suppose that it is watchable.

Tegan Mon 25-Apr-16 18:50:04

Alas I have realised there are 8 episodes. Still, at least after tonight I shall be half way there. Also, how could the police not know that a suspected murderer [and one that was closely linked to what they were actually investigating] had been released from prison confused?

ninathenana Mon 25-Apr-16 23:03:48

I'm totally lost confused
Only watched because there was nothing else on.

Eloethan Tue 26-Apr-16 00:22:30

There's so much going on and so many different characters that I find it very confusing.

Luckylegs9 Tue 26-Apr-16 06:30:29

Because there was nothing else on, I tried to watch it again, but found it confusing and violent, so switched over to the on line dating and fell asleep. At least it's a good night on to tonight. Think Anna Friel has not done herself any favours by giving an expressionless face, it just fascinates me.

Charleygirl Tue 26-Apr-16 08:05:35

I also found it confusing last night- am I losing it? I was hoping that next week was the last episode but no such luck, we have 4 more. I am aware that I do not have to watch it but I would like to see it to the bitter end.

rosesarered Tue 26-Apr-16 09:26:55

I agree with you Tegan and once you doubt the credibility of what's happening it becomes just watching acting going on! To really get into a programme or a book, you have to believe in it.

rosesarered Tue 26-Apr-16 09:29:30

I thought the expressionless face, and the stiff way she walks and the things that she says and does, were perhaps meant to imply ASD ( popular now in tv) but there again perhaps not.
