Judi Dench has apparently got her first tattoo at the age of 81! Not sure I could be that brave grin

Sheilasue Either would be lovely, it's a beautiful thought and a bracelet would certainly be less painful. Although little ones really don't hurt much, and it doesn't take long. l'm so sorry for your loss x

I am not keen on tattoos. I think if you want art on your body, why not have a temporary tattoo. Then you can go art free, or change art depending on occasion / fashion etc.

The phrase that Judi chose is interesting, and seems appropriate. As we all interact with others etc, who knows how the day will turn out. Make the most of it, we are here for who knows how long.Whatis on offer / available one day may not be the next. How many Businesses have closed in the last decade? Yet in the past we had family Businesses which I believe may well have Celebrated Centenary. Loyalty was appreciated, Respect and Trust grew. Now we have much uncertainty.

Judi is a Great actress, I can recall seeing her in A Fine Romance. Hoping that the actress would get the opportunity of many other roles, as I believed that she was talented. Glad that she did get further roles. Wish she would now enjoy her working roles, as well as some Happy Personal and Family times. As she certainly has given viewers much Entertainment and Pleasure throughout her working life.

Well a discrete little one if you must, but huge tattoos all over your body IMO just make people look really dirty.

I have a delicate sprig of flowers on my foot. My DD got it for my 61st birthday. I love it because there's a flower bud for my DH and me, DD and DS and DGSs. It's a constant reminder of the love we share. I am amazed at how many other ladies of my age have tattoos and I applaud Dame Judi for having hers.

My granddaughters (4 yr old twins) love tatto transfers, so for those who are afraid of needles or not sure, they're great fun to play around with. My lovely GDs are big my little pony fans and like to have their cutie marks like the ponies on their hip!
I really think what someone does or thinks is no ones business as long as it doesn't impinge on anyone else and is legal! I think it's fantastic to have women like Judi Dench and Helen Mirren. They make me feel that you are never to old and encourage me too get healthier so I can enjoy the freedom of older age!

Personally don't like them but have friends who have small ones I know lots of brides who have them on their shoulder but cover them so strapless dress looks better !! Must admit some are really good though

Hanker after one but DH and DDs horrified (I'm 65)Just somthing small in a discreet place .
Perhaps I should try a temporary one and see if anyone notices...
I also hanker after a sports car Tattoo would definitely be cheaper .

Good for her! I have been thinking about getting one for a couple of years now. Before I am 70 for sure! Suzi

Personally,I don't like tattoos, although I do admire some of the lovely designs!
As for Judi Dench,I don't think she's brave, just expressing her individuality and I'm all for that,at any age.

Granny2016 Sat 02-Jul-16 11:58:44

I find the art of tattooing very interesting, however,I think they look so much nicer in books.

My dad had them done while overseas with the RAF....nothing saucy.
He only ever wore a long sleeved shirt as he always regretted them.

Why not opt for a design you can wash off when you tire of it

mags1234 Sat 02-Jul-16 12:17:23

That's exactly what words and place I want!

Legs55 Sat 02-Jul-16 12:18:18

I don't like them but both my daughter & her partner have quite a few - they are very tasteful & it is their choice - after all they are grown-ups. I would never have one as I don't like the idea of pain when it is not necessary, I'm not frightened of needles either just don't see the point grin

I have a small tattoo on the inside of my right wrist. It didn't hurt much and I can wear a watch or a bracelet if I want to cover it.

I think 'carpe didn't is an excellent choice.

Good for you Dame Judy. Her body, her choice. smile

Krissie100873 Sat 02-Jul-16 14:31:28

I nearly had my late daughters initials put on my wrist but changed my mind. Judy Dench is quite brave i think due to the pain factor of having a tattoo. Also i read that "carpe diem" means "seize the day". Only 2 days ago on a programme i heard a lady call tattoes "tramp stamp". So glad i didnt have one.

Lizkat Sat 02-Jul-16 14:57:26

Personally I wouldn't like one, but each to her own and if that is what she wants then well done Judi Dench. My little rebellion came a few months ago when I had two more ear piercings done. I had to go to a tattoo parlour for one of them, which was a new experience, and earned me quite a bit of respect amongst the youngsters in my family.!

Bucksfizz Sat 02-Jul-16 15:17:35

Given my family's predisposition towards Alzheimer's, I think by the time I'm 81 I might have to have my name and address tattoed on my wrist!

Seriously though, I've been tempted to have a tattoo along the side of my foot, below the ankle, just nice script saying 'Esperanza'. Prounounced 'shperanza', this is the Portuguese word for 'hope'. No reason, I just fancy it.

Ruth1958 Sat 02-Jul-16 15:31:48

Why is it brave to have a tattoo? Rather naff I think and oh sooooooo common and boring now! Just an opinion!

Ruth1958 Sat 02-Jul-16 15:34:11

Did I read someone thought tattoos are tasteful? Lordy how standards have changed. Yuk!

poshkitty Sat 02-Jul-16 15:34:59

I would love a butterfly tattoo on my shoulder, not sure about the pain though. I was going to have one for my 70th but chickened out in the end!

Anya Sat 02-Jul-16 17:05:05

it doesn't hurt much - honest.

Anya Sat 02-Jul-16 17:06:30

So you are saying that Judy Dench is a tramp? what a horrid thing to say Krissie

Anya Sat 02-Jul-16 17:07:38

Judgmental, rude, narrow minded post Ruth

Spangles1963 Sat 02-Jul-16 17:14:56

I don't like tattoos on women at all, whatever their age,and can only just about tolerate them on men.Unfortunately,a lot of women that have tattoos seem to have the same old stereotypical one on the bottom of their back,or a butterfly on their shoulder. Or worse still, their children's names and DOB on their arms.

Spangles1963 Sat 02-Jul-16 17:17:07

Oops poshkitty! Just seen your post. Sorry,no offence intended.
