Judi Dench has apparently got her first tattoo at the age of 81! Not sure I could be that brave grin

I have a friend whose mother-in-law asked the family to pay for a rose tattooed on her bottom for her 80th birthday present. When asked why, she said it was patriotic, she had always fancied having one and time was racing by, and it would look good in her coffin! Each to their own!

I had a temporary one of the yin/yang symbol done on my hip bone 14 years ago! Was only meant to last a max of 10 years but is still going strong. My now ex husband absolutely hated it but it was the start of the new me and my freedom, I was a cowed and obedient child and teenager so this is my rebellious stage! I have just had some vibrant purple flashes put in my hair today yippee! Now oddly it is my daughter who does the eye rolling rather than my controlling parents but I am braver now and just laugh it off. Have fun while you can still make your own decisionsgrin

Who would see her bottom in her coffin, unruffled? grin Unless...shock

grin the undertakers?
If she wanted a tat then so what, mind you, she is seizing the day a bit late.

I have just given myself a tattoo on my right outer calf
My 70 th birthday gift to myself
A watercolour style of 3 tulips, my favourite flower, to represent my 3 sons
Differing reactions from them all
' Honoured, ' 'WTF?' 'And are you having a full back piece next?'
Reckon I am old and wrinkly now, so it will not get any worse
I am thrilled

A friend of mine refers to them as 'Twatoos' and I think that sums up my thoughts exactly!!

Each to his own. I wouldn't have one but have no problem with any one who does. If they want to spoil their bodies so be it. My son has a dragon on his back and he knows exactly how I feel about it.

Don't have one, don't want one and I don't have a strong opinion on those who choose to have them. Younger people view tattoos differently to older generations, they see them as body art.

Elisabeth: ? at first I thought you meant you did it yourself ?
I wanted a Celtic band on my upper arm at one time but don't regret not having it done.
GD 16 and I discovered we both watch Tattoo Fixers.

I occasionally mutter 'Love your tats' as I pass somone with impressive body art, they usually appear pleased. Any else seen the amazing blue cat's head on the the throat of a N London Byron manager? She looks impressive.

OMG, how funny!

No, was 'done' in Seattle in a tattoo parlour owned and run by women
It took 2 hours and the 'pain' was minimal
I reckoned if I had 3 children without epidural, a tattoo would be a breeze
Herewith as it was completed
Now 6 weeks old and beautiful ( to me!)

I was fascinated listening to professor Sue Black recently talking about the use of tattoos in forensic identification. Here's an article:

Absolutely hate tattoos. Don't understand why you would get one at age 81?
