"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

merlotgran Fri 26-Aug-16 19:24:23

And now we have Caz's suicide/attempted suicide to contend with or has she killed her baby?

More Grimfest!

Iam64 Fri 26-Aug-16 19:38:19

merlot, I don't think even Sean O'Connor would have Kaz kill her baby. If he does, I may be forced to join those who say they are about to flounce and never listen again.
Kaz has been painted as a sympathetic character. She has also been assessed and found to be safe and stable enough to be allowed to live in the mother and baby unit, despite her history of self harm. I maybe in my Pollyanna mode here but my feeling is that this trauma upon trauma may be a catalyst for Helen to begin to realise her experiences have been similar to those of Kaz. Kaz told Helen that Blake would never let her daughters go now he'd got hold of them. Will this lead to Helen making comparisons .with her own situation.
But yes, a shocking end to what had been a very enjoyable episode. I loved Brian's comments about his dreadful children and Jen's summary of Madam Butterfly, followed by Brian's slightly embarrassed Humph

Gracesgran Fri 26-Aug-16 20:29:18

I liked Jennifer's gentle dig too Iam. That's when you realise it pays to have listen since the beginning (although I was only one at the time grin)

… I wonder if something is going to happen to Kaz's children which will make Helen realise she has to fight for Henry and Jack even if she cannot fight for herself?

At last I am reading it right again. Thank heavens. I think it's the affairs I have difficulty in believing. I need to remember the characters may be attracted to people I wouldn't be.

We are in for a steady build up now I think. Deep breaths and we will get through it (or switch if off and back on again)

LullyDully Sat 27-Aug-16 08:31:33

Can only get hairy from now in. Let's please have a happy ending, not holding my breath. Perhaps Kaz will help Helen wake up. She can't loose Henry, Rob is nothing to do with Henry.

Gracesgran - thanks for Archers to Archbold link on Thursday 25th, I found it an interesting read.

Nelliemoser Sat 27-Aug-16 09:45:20

Spoiler alert.

Kaz's name is on next Fridays RT cast list.

Elrel Sat 27-Aug-16 09:49:40

Oh dear, has Mr Keri killed Kaz? I do hope not. A mostly good episode with subtle interaction between Jenny and Brian.
Pip now seems to be a character from some completely different and inferior show. Does anyone IRL actually use the term 'friend with benefits' in a serious context??!
I just can't imagine it!
Would three farm-raised young people really have a drunken driving contest with an essential and expensive piece of equipment?

merlotgran Sat 27-Aug-16 10:03:37

No they wouldn't, Elrel I'm sick of Josh/Pip/Alice/Tobeeee acting like silly kids.

I find myself hanging on to Brian's every word these days. He's the only character worth listening to.

suzied Sat 27-Aug-16 10:16:14

Are Alice and Pip played by the same actor? Or is it just me that can't tell them apart.?

Hunt Sat 27-Aug-16 10:16:58

I sometimes miss an episode of the Archers..... but I wouldn't miss gransnet and the Archers' Addicts for anything!

Gracesgran Sat 27-Aug-16 11:28:02

So Kaz is still alive next Friday - thank you for that Nellie. I can see 'Helen' still being confused but feeling she must fight for other women in her position. Her background with the organincs, etc., means she probably has a sense of fighting for what she believes in.

I think it is difficult to tell some of the younger character apart but regional accents are softening and even disappearing - and we are getting older grin.

Elrel your description of three farm-raised young people hits the nail on the head imo. I find it difficult to believe some of the behaviour at the moment - this is Ambridge not the East End. One of the great things they got right is past was Nigel's behaviour; it was appropriately inappropriate smile. John's death in the tractor accident is far to much a part of their culture for them to treat expensive tractors like toys. Not good SWs although they probably didn't have a hand in the story-line.

Gracesgran Sat 27-Aug-16 11:57:12

What chance is there that Helen could walk free? Helen's defence explained.

Hopefully we will get more explanations as we get closer. I am glad you found the "Archers to Archbold" link useful Elrel; I find these articles really help but they are not for everyone. I does help me remember that justice is not about fairness but about the law - which can seem very unfair at times, e.g., Rob getting custody of Henry.

Nelliemoser Sat 27-Aug-16 12:10:56

I think young people with a bit of drink inside them and in a party mood could well get up to all sorts of mischief.
After all, all the were doing was trying out the new tractor they weren't going out of their way to damage it. Silly beggars. This sort of stuff happens all the time.

LullyDully Sat 27-Aug-16 13:03:28

I am waiting for Will to catch on that George has been taught old poaching skills by Eddie. I find Alice's voice quite distinctive but not poor old Pips.

AyjayF Sat 27-Aug-16 13:46:45

I agree Hunt. I've been getting my Archers info more from this thread than the programme recently

Lazigirl Sat 27-Aug-16 14:34:41

Thanks for link Gg. There's a different point of view about options for Helen's defence by Olivia Potts barrister, quoted in article in New Statesman which is interesting. Even barristers don't really seem to agree about points of law. Can't do links am afraid.

shysal Sat 27-Aug-16 17:18:48

It annoys me that George's accent is much posher than the rest of the family. They tried a few days ago with him saying 'ennit' which sounded really odd!
I too am hoping that Caz's situation will fire up Helen, the signs are there.

merlotgran Sat 27-Aug-16 17:41:57

I get annoyed that they can have a child actor - who is actually good playing George yet Rooaaaaaarrrry is mute and Henry is played by a robot.

According to my half Irish grandson the correct pronunciation of Ruairi is....Rory. grin

Gracesgran Sun 28-Aug-16 14:50:48

Do you remember this?

This old BBC blog was highlighted by the BBC Facebook page today so I think we are meant to remember it grin

Gracesgran Sun 28-Aug-16 18:45:18

Mmmm ... we are being fed quite a bit of Archer's history at the moment ... I wonder why? I did enjoy this as it took me back to the days when my children were young and I got back into the Archer's more regularly again. Do you remember the history of Grange Farm? This piece brings back some names we haven't heard for a while - and it quotes Blackadder - what more could we ask grin

Gracesgran Sun 28-Aug-16 19:24:43

Yes!!! I hope Ian tells Anna as I would have thought Rob is not allowed to interfere with witnesses. Anna may work out that Rob has done the same to Jess too.

Anyone think Jess will appear but behind screens or by video link?

Nandalot Sun 28-Aug-16 19:34:39

Just listened to tonight's on I player and got a violence warning and a request for my pin. Seems a bit OTT as no blows were launched.

Nandalot Sun 28-Aug-16 19:35:23

Well done, Ian. He dealt with that well.

merlotgran Sun 28-Aug-16 19:56:15

Angry man from Northern Ireland all sound like Ian Paisley. grin

Be afraid, Rob. Be very afraid!

Iam64 Sun 28-Aug-16 22:36:39

Yey, go Ian. Rob's bullying personality demonstrated so well. Ian is going to visit Helen. The cricket team are avoiding Rob.

What on earth was Shula doing making meat paste sandwiches? Do any of us make meat paste sandwiches? Does anyone>
