"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

merlotgran Wed 24-Aug-16 10:51:30

Is Charlotte going to live in? I don't think it was mentioned.

If so and Rob is convinced he's going to get custody of GiddyJack, employ a live in Nanny and presumably have occasional visits from Ursula, shouldn't he be looking for a bigger house?

Gracesgran Wed 24-Aug-16 13:27:36

I would think she would have to live in merlot wouldn't you? I doubt the job will be 9 to 5.

I am finding the time line difficult to work out. I seem to remember that the family court session to finalise who has care of the boys is directly after the trial - but I am not sure how quickly that will be. I presume that if Helen is found guilty it will still be between Rob and Tony and Pat. Rob was writing a statement for the family court last weekend - will Helen see this before she writes her own or will they just go individually into the court and then be sent out to the solicitors?

I do think Rob was rehearsing his 'truths' when he was talking to Charlotte and I think reading his statement will make Helen realise what she is up against. I wonder if something is going to happen to Kaz's children which will make Helen realise she has to fight for Henry and Jack even if she cannot fight for herself?

AyjayF Wed 24-Aug-16 14:03:44

Charlotte was interviewed then Rob was able to go to nets that evening. What???

LullyDully Wed 24-Aug-16 16:45:59

I did wonder who was babysitting?

suzied Wed 24-Aug-16 17:09:44

I wonder if Charlotte has a back story... We didn't hear much about her qualifications.

Nanabelle Wed 24-Aug-16 18:05:04

oh no, can't bear all this possibly going on with yet another young woman. Hope the storyline does not go on with Charlotte employed and groomed for the next wife. Actually, I am getting rather bored with the whole story, and so disappointed that Anna is not the hot shot barrister she was made out to be. Reckon Helen will definitely be found guilty, and the story will go on and on and on…………… oh dear.
We need Kirsty to be in more episodes please!

merlotgran Wed 24-Aug-16 19:39:38

I couldn't agree more, Nanabelle. The whole Rob/Helen storyline is getting so tedious it was lovely to have a whole episode tonight with only one reference to BF.

And now Rob's going to be doing his pantomime villain act all around Ambridge courtesy of his new job. hmm

Iam64 Thu 25-Aug-16 19:13:03

Oh dear, poor Freddie. Is he dyslexic or is he one of those young people who do badly at age 16 exams, but go on to do very well in a chosen career or, setting up their own business.
Richard Locke has just done an excellent job in calming Freddie down.

suzied Thu 25-Aug-16 19:14:31

Richard has got an incentive....getting into Elizabeth's.......(good books - what else ?)

Iam64 Thu 25-Aug-16 19:36:35

Yes indeed, Good Books. I feel for Shula but hey ho, she had her chance didn't she.

Elizabeth and Richard both have teenage children and could, I suspect, make a good partnership. Let's have some happy, positive relationships in TA to carry us through the trial and the fall out from the trial

DaphneBroon Thu 25-Aug-16 20:05:46

As I remember, Nigel, though a thoroughly good egg, was hardly the sharpest knife in the drawer. Not entirely unexpected then!
Pack him off to Agricultural College - Cirencester or some such , to learn Land Management .

Iam64 Thu 25-Aug-16 20:20:37

Yes DaphneBroon, I thought of Nigel as you're right, a thoroughly good egg but not the brightest young man. He was a good husband and father though, and great entertainment. I'm not in the group who hate Sean O"conner for the Helen and Rob story but I will never forgive him for throwing Nigel off the roof. I read that he now regrets that action. He didn't know enough about the Archers imo, to take such a course of action. Nigel would have continued to play a significant part in village life, he'd have adored his children and his Lizzie and it just occurred to me - he'd have been the one to see through Titchener. In fact, he probably knew chaps who'd been to the same school, where no doubt, Rob was a bully.

merlotgran Thu 25-Aug-16 20:26:04

Land Management at an Agricultural College like Harper Adams or Cirencester is a degree course.

Looks like a re-sit is Freddie's best option or the longer route of NVQ level 3 etc., at an agricultural college with the appropriate course.

Iam64 Thu 25-Aug-16 20:41:29

Have you suggested that to Freddie and his mum merlotgran? I saw a young man on the tv news, whose GCSE results hadn't been as good as he'd hoped. He'd decided on a BTech in his chosen area rather than A levels.

merlotgran Thu 25-Aug-16 20:50:05

Maybe I should, Iam grin

I'm still fuming at Pip/Josh/Alice and their stupid behaviour with the tractor. Josh seems hell bent on getting others into trouble - Johnny and the combine for example.

They're behaving like spoiled brats.

Iam64 Thu 25-Aug-16 20:51:42

They most certainly are. I hope Adam doesn't kill anyone, one trial is enough (as the continuity woman commented)

merlotgran Thu 25-Aug-16 21:32:42

Has Rob started that job yet?

I was thinking back to when Charlie gave Adam a hard time when he let Roy drive the combine and he jammed up the threshing drum (or something like that)

Will Adam now get behind with the drilling thanks to his idiot cousins and half sister?

Rob would just love that.

merlotgran Thu 25-Aug-16 21:33:31

Actually, it wasn't Roy, it was Ed.

LullyDully Thu 25-Aug-16 21:59:43

I hated Nigel falling off the roof, he was such a lovable character......unlike a few others.

Gracesgran Thu 25-Aug-16 23:10:33

I'm really sorry to bring us back to the story line lurking in the background but I will forget if I don't put this on now.

From the Archers to Archbold week ending 21/08/16 - Part 1: Character building

phoenix Fri 26-Aug-16 12:34:21

Oh dear, memory problems, Graces?

Elegran Fri 26-Aug-16 12:41:42

No-one is exempt, Phoenix

Alishka Fri 26-Aug-16 15:36:07

Did So'C. Throw Nigel off the roof? confused I thought it was VW's swan song?Dunno.
I was talking with a nonogenarian lady yesterday who has listened to TA from the beginning, but even she has a take it or (mostly) leave it attitude towards the programme now. It started when the Wob/Hellqueen storyline got too dark and she also made the point that so many voices now sound the same that unless their name is mentioned she's unsure who's who. I can't argue with that.

Interestingly, Helen has, in law, a get out of jail free card but I don't think the SWs know about it? It's that had Wob died as a result of The stabbing, a plea of justifiable homicide, as Helen attacked him in defence of her child, would have been upheld. (As a lawyer explained to the R4 Today listeners the morning after). 'Course, tho, as she refuses to say what provoked her attack, it can't be brought into play atm. (Sigh)

Lazigirl Fri 26-Aug-16 17:45:54

It's her word against his unfortunately, even if she is able eventually to realise and articulate what provoked her. If he'd died I think there would have been an even worse outcome for Helen, as at that time she was in no fit state to plead provocation in protection of Henry. She appears still to be in a post traumatic psychological state, but hopefully will have recovered sufficiently to give a coherent defence at the trial. We are all keeping fingers crossed, but in RL not sure would give much for her chances.

Iam64 Fri 26-Aug-16 18:10:40

She'd have better chances if Kirsty could visit and talk with her about what happened that night.
Or, if the writers had not decided to introduce Anna as a hot shot defence barrister, skilled in domestic abuse cases, then paint a character who is barely coping with her own life and seemingly unable to encourage Helen to open up to her. Or to instruct an expert psychologist/psychiatrist who could diagnose Helen has having ptsd and stockholme syndrome, to name but two.

Or, if the police/social work investigation which included one interview with Henry had enabled him to talk about more than stab gate. Mind you, we have no idea what Henry said, we only know that Rob has been coaching him for months.
Ah well, we live in hope
