"Alas poor Scruff, I knew him well, who could forget that pungent smell?"

Nanabelle Fri 09-Sept-16 21:48:55

I see lots of famous names in the jury. I wonder if the cost of hiring them is why we have "lost" so many of the regular cast over the past months. Do hope when it is all over, we get them all back again and back to the usual everyday stories!
Although Rob will never go away as he is Jack's father.

Looks like it's someone else's turn to be on the receiving end, wonder how it will end up?wink

merlotgran Fri 09-Sept-16 22:15:14

Let's hope a few things we didn't hear are revealed during the deliberation, otherwise what's the point of an hour long episode with a stellar cast?

LullyDully Sat 10-Sept-16 08:41:19

Nigel.........oh do the Lower Loxley lot know????

shysal Sat 10-Sept-16 09:12:18

I am sure 'Nigel' won't be able to make his voice unrecognisable. I am glad I read the link so that I can try to place the actors playing the jurors. Wish they would donate their fees to charity, they could have recruited them at an auction and helped the cause of domestic abuse victims.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 10-Sept-16 09:20:58

I know gg, but I'm not sure such a young lad, especially one brought up in less than perfect circumstances, would manage to be quite that empathetic and kindly towards a grandad he has known for such a relatively short time.

No! Would not disagree with other jurors deliberately! It's just that so often on here I seem to end up swimming against the tide of the opinions of others. It was a joke really. One no one could be expected to get.

Good point about the custard making.

SOC says “I have done jury service three times and found the process fascinating. ... On the one hand I met some amazing people who exhibited a depth of humanity and care about people they had never met, which I found deeply moving. At the same time, I also experienced the ugly, iron face of British prejudice; it was a real eye-opener.”

I imagine we will hear very much what we see on some forums (not GNet obviously smile) merlot. People trying to use knowledge and fact and making a decision based on the evidence as they have been told to, up against blind prejudice. We have already had a taste of the prejudice in the tweet. I could be really interesting to hear how people might read this only having heard the evidence and not having our insight.

That does seem a waste of money to have all those expensive actors in - and the possibility of recognising their voices will detract from the reality of the script.

A Listener's Lament

We’ve suffered a week of high drama,
Our nerves have been put to the test,
We’ve yelled ourselves hoarse as a matter of course
Because Anna is not at her best (whatever that is)

We’ve put up with Pat’s constant wailing
And Bruce, who we know is an arse,
Shouting, ‘Why don’t you see what is obvious to me
That this whole bloody trial is a farce?’

We cheered when Jess made an appearance,
Her evidence put Rob at fault
But our joy turned to fury. A twat tweet from the jury
Meant everything ground to a halt.

So now will they find Helen guilty?
Is it jail for the Blossom Hill one?
And will Rob start to brag as he changes his bag,
‘Heh! Henry surely will soon be ‘Myson’?

No! We now must All Rise and be counted,
We owe it to Helen and Giddy Jack,
Because now Sean O'Connor will soon be a goner
And we'll have our old Archers back!

Pleeeeeeease!

Lazigirl Sat 10-Sept-16 09:46:06

Brilliant Merlot. Well I think bringing Nigel back as a juror is bordering on farce, and says more about Sean O'Connor's self indulgence, and desire to leave in glow of publicity.

Gracesgran Sat 10-Sept-16 10:03:24

Well written merlot and a brilliant summary.

Nigel will not sound like Nigel apparently LG - but it begs the question as to who he will sound like. I think SOC knows he done wrong!

Defending Helen Archer – marital rape and the role of expert testimony in cases involving domestic abuse

Gracesgran Sat 10-Sept-16 16:01:47

I have just finished the above article (I was on my way out when I put it on) and found it really useful in understanding why Anna did not offer a psychological report.

Iam64 Sat 10-Sept-16 18:21:56

I haven't read your linked article Gracesgran (we're going out to the theatre, how lucky are we) BUT I can't leave without congratulating merlotgran on her poetic summary of where the Archers fan club/listeners are at right now.

Merlotgran - we salute you, it's a wonderful summary and none can disagree with it. A miracle.

Jingle, I don't mean to be anything other than complimentary here but I do get the feeling you enjoy 'swimming against the tide' and you do it very well.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 10-Sept-16 18:32:50

Sometimes Iam. Sometimes. smile

Yes merlot. Very good.

merlotgran Sat 10-Sept-16 20:15:44

Thanks, everyone. Thanks, Iam grin I had hoped we could kind of draw a line under the trial after the 'special' tomorrow night but I've just looked at the Mumsnet spoiler thread where there's an episode update and some 'hints' from Graham Seed and Louiza Patikas.

hmm

Luckylegs9 Sat 10-Sept-16 21:25:14

Oh my goodness, it's all happening now, can't wait until tomorrow. Very good poem Merlot.

LullyDully Sun 11-Sept-16 09:42:06

Only a few hours to go. Must keep the tenfold out of the kitchen and have complete silence.

LullyDully Sun 11-Sept-16 09:42:32

Not tenfold .....menfolk

The Archers Jury Special

Just pictures - no spoilers.

Helen's Trial: Guilty or Not Guilty - what do listeners predict?

Gracesgran Sun 11-Sept-16 11:39:33

There is much talk on other forums about Graham Seed's comment that there is a twist in tonight's episode. I hope it is just something possible not silly. My guess would be a hung jury 8:3 or something similar and the judge sending them back saying he will accept 9:2 or 10:1. I just hope it is not a retrial as I don't think that would hang true.

merlotgran Sun 11-Sept-16 12:47:21

If it's a retrial, can she please get another barrister?

Not that I want to go through all this again.

Iam64 Sun 11-Sept-16 13:44:55

For those who don't want spoilers - look away now.
In any event, I'm not sure this is a genuine spoiler but I picked it up from one of the numerous Archers Facebook forums. It seems that on the Paddy O'Connell show on radio 4 this morning, a guest who previously worked on the Archers said "but she didn't, did she" during a discussion about Helen stabbing Rob.

I can't believe she didn't inflict the first stab wound which I thought happened as he was going towards her, so his body weight meant the stab was a Big Stab. The wrist I thought happened when he tried to get the knife off her. But, he did tell her to drop the knife and we did hear it hit the floor didn't we. So, is there a mystery about the 3rd wound.

I almost wish I hadn't entered into yet more speculation. I'm off to continue tidying up the garden.

Gracesgran Sun 11-Sept-16 14:11:35

I don't think I could bear a retrial.

I heard the chap say that Iam and took it more as an opinion - or a teaser - than a fact. I don't think I will be up to picnics during tonight's hour but I may take to drink!
