Now being reported on the BBC website so that's no more Bake Off for me then sad

It isn't all cakes either. There are savoury bakes and bread too. The more complicated recipes are very much special occasion items, not something you would bake every day.

Victoria08

It seems we are encouraged to cut out sugary drinks, but not cakes.

Of course, if you bake them then you gonna eat them. If not, what's the point.

And no, I don't watch it. It doesn't appeal to me.

Too sickly!!

Then how do you know if GBBO is any good or not? Mary Berry has been baking and eating cakes for more than 60 years and has a pretty good figure regardless of her age. Everything in moderation should be what guides us not a blanket ban on cakes, sweets and sugar. I batch bake and freeze cakes and meals and have done for almost 40 years. Useful for when I can't be bothered cooking or have visitors and I know there are no preservatives or additives in my cakes or ready meals.

Most people bake a batch of cakes to share among family and/or friends. That's the point.

They probably have one or two themselves (although not all bakers do) but not the whole lot!

Well yes Spider... but... As said earlier, where is the choice ... endless repeat Series, Stricly, Voice, XFactor, House in the Sun or in the Country - and on and on, again and again.

Can't we have the choice for something new and different. I don't mind the Antiques Road Show repeated forever, but the rest ...basta, assez!

Will there be a bidding war for Nadia?

Battersea1971 Fri 23-Sept-16 17:51:12

I think James Martin would be a good replacement for Paul Hollywood. I'm sure the bbc will continue with a similar programme. But please not Jamie Oliver.

spyder08 Fri 23-Sept-16 17:04:06

Well said Ana. I suppose you could argue if you are tempted to bake cakes etc. then you would be tempted to eat them. Surely the key is moderation in all things.
Victoria if you don't like it don't watch it...simples!!

Ana Fri 23-Sept-16 16:49:38

I don't think anyone on Bake Off's ever suggested it's OK for everyone to eat loads of cakes. It's a programme about cooking, not eating!

Victoria08 Fri 23-Sept-16 16:46:18

I'm fed up of hearing and reading about b.....y bake of.

Why is it ok for all,of us to eat loads of sugary cakes.

I think the series has over run and needs a break now.

Paul and James Martin are old friends, they had a Sky programme together years ago - I suspect it was JM who made PH's name... Possibility, but a lot of testosterone!

grandMattie Fri 23-Sept-16 16:20:19

Wonder who will be Paul's sidekick? Nigella??? grin

Do hope the BBC do a lovely new show featuring Mary Berry. Hope they do get a group to jell and that it outshines the revamped version on Chanel 4.

What I find interesting is like me everyone says they skip the adverts on commercial T.V. - wether that's recording and skipping or going for a wee. So why oh why do advertisers bother- we all hate the ad breaks and don't watch them anyway. I rarely watch Anything other than the bbc personally - if on the rare occasions there is something elsewhere I want to watch I record it and skip the ads... How then do they make money - surely the marketeers know most people don't watch any ads and see them as a put off? I enjoy GBBOi think the chemistry was right but it is getting a bit samey so a new program would be welcome. I find Saturday Kitchen has gone off without James- but I quite liked the post Clarkson top gear.

Now Mary's going I hope bbc give her her own cookery show and we will have something else to look forward to like Paul Hollywood easy on the eye "" but mary makes me feel I can try and achieve anything!

KatyK Fri 23-Sept-16 10:58:10

I wondered if Nadiya would be offered the job too.

KatyK Fri 23-Sept-16 10:57:34

kitty ha ha. Whenever James is on TV, my DH says 'your boyfriend is on' I wish blush

Kim19 Fri 23-Sept-16 10:42:19

Goodness such diversity of vitriol and praise! Is GBBO really that important? I am a gradual convert having originally dipped in and out and then actually started to enjoy the gentle pleasantness of the show in general and ended up as a regular viewer when I'm available. What I'm really looking forward to is what the ingenious BBC will introduce us to next. After all some of us will recollect the ridicule of 'an hour's prime time programme on baking'? Unbelievable! Well...............

Theoddbird Fri 23-Sept-16 10:36:32

without Mary Berryand Mel and Sue it won't be worth watching....

annemac101 Fri 23-Sept-16 10:32:56

Although I do watch it I'm not that keen on any of the presenters. I've never liked Mel and Sue's humour and I think Mary and Paul are a bit boring. The only thing I don't like about it going to Ch four is the ad breaks and then we have a re run of what we've just watched (in case we've forgotten) I record every show I watch on tv that has adverts and that way I can fast forward through them and the blasted re- caps.

Jane10 Fri 23-Sept-16 10:31:15

I'm not in the least interested in baking either and suspect that the majority of the huge viewing figures aren't either but there's something captivating about this programme. The recipes right. Now its having the ingredients altered it won't be the same. It'll be like a victoria sponge without the jam and cream and served up on a tin plate.

HootyMcOwlface Fri 23-Sept-16 10:28:29

Rosieroe ha ha! Good one!
I'm really pleased Mary has stepped out, she has gone back up in my estimation (I thought she was staying and was very disappointed in her before!) Paul staying does not surprise me, he seems that sort of person.

Personally, I think the show has run its course now anyway. Channel 4 has bought a turkey - just in time for Christmas.

margrete Fri 23-Sept-16 10:25:15

Really, who cares? I couldn't be less interested. With all the concern about the national obesity epidemic, and people are worried about a programme about - baking? I've never watched it. I don't know all the people you're talking about. The BBC puts on some excellent wildlife programmes, but as for all the rest - no thank you.

adaunas Fri 23-Sept-16 10:08:58

Bored by Bake Off on BBC. CH4 might bring a bit more life to it. They certainly did a good job with the Paralympics.
