It isn't something I usually comment on but

Leslie Joseph is 71 in two weeks time!!!!!!!

Teddy123 Sun 02-Oct-16 12:48:02

I'm crossing my fingers that Lesley Joseph doesn't log on to Gransnet as I expect even someone as bubbly as her would be hurt by the assortment of mean comments.

I doubt she wants to look like the granny next door. Yep her hair may be a tad too dark ..... Though the style icons here are probably grey as Mother Nature intended because they can't be bothered with the upkeep of dealing with roots!

She has a fab figure and a characterful face! Go Lesley!
???

All these posts make me really pleased I've stopped watching it - got fed up with "Brucie" & all the flashing lights (I am Epileptic & they make me feel uncomfortable). Think people like Ed Balls & Lesley Joseph are brave for going on it. Claudia Frangapane is a Commonwealth Gold medal winner (Gymnastics)hmm

I heard that Anastacia has a hernia, which was why the lifts were removed from their routine. No quick recovery from that is there?

Jalima Sun 02-Oct-16 12:56:14

The rest sort of fade into obscurity except the gymnast who I never heard of but is good
Claudia Fragapane, one of our best gymnasts:
Career Highlights: Four time Commonwealth Games champion for Team England, 2015 European Championships floor silver, 2015 World Championships team bronze

Re Lesley
Well done Lesley !!! - who cares if you look your age and you dye your hair
I don't care if she looks her age and am full of admiration for her figure and her stamina, but the black hair is not a good look, it probably does make her look older. Perhaps she is reading this, yikes!, but apparently grey streaks are the new blonde and could lighten her hair and her face.

Jalima Sun 02-Oct-16 12:57:49

Would you be doing the same over a chap of the same age?
of course!!

I like Will Young

Jane10 Sun 02-Oct-16 13:02:27

So do I! Not sure why. He's got a nice face and seems so likeable.

suzied Sun 02-Oct-16 13:05:25

On a discussion forum surely a range of views are ok. People in the public eye must expect comments on their looks/ talent etc we aren't at Sunday School having to play nicely nicely. I like LJ and think it's great that older women are represented on tv programmes much more than in the past. I don't love her hair but that's an opinion and I am sure she has stylist advice etc and chooses her trademark look. Good for her.

Jalima Sun 02-Oct-16 13:08:12

Though the style icons here are probably grey as Mother Nature intended
I would never claim to be a style icon, but I am the same age as Lesley Joseph and don't have any grey hairs yet, although my hair has gone darker and darker over the years - but not black. Perhaps Lesley's hair is naturally that colour, Mother Nature did not intend all of us to go grey.

Battersea1971 Sun 02-Oct-16 13:27:14

If she wants black hair and thinks it makes her look good, so what, not everyone wants grey permed hair. Some of the style icons on here need to get a life.

Ana Sun 02-Oct-16 13:41:08

I bet not many on here have 'grey permed hair', although we all have lives, Battersea1971.

nannypink1 Sun 02-Oct-16 14:11:06

I think LJ has amazing legs n stamina. Good on her. How many of us in our 60's let alone older could do what she did. As for Naga....wow....she looked a different person. So pretty with long hair. Her hair normally us pretty awful but she looked stunning with long locks. So feminine and I didn't recognise her. Grow yr hair Naga. Craig is just evil....don't like him at all

Eloethan Sun 02-Oct-16 14:21:59

I like Naga's hair short - I think it suits her face.

I think it is necessary to have someone on the judging panel who concentrates more on the technicalities and I think that Craig's comments are usually justified. It's a pity he is sometimes unnecessarily nasty. When he did the Maestro challenge, he said he now had further understanding and sympathy for the very nervous contestants on Strictly. He seems not to always remember that now.

BlueBelle Sun 02-Oct-16 14:40:01

Do you know I don't think most of the comments are at all catty about Lesley most people have said she's brilliant to have the stamina and flexibility for her age but have commented on her looking older than her age mainly because of harsh black hair and also the cougar role they have given her is a bit discomforting is that really termed as catty I BET she's heard a lot worse and it would be water of a ducks back with her money and longevity in show business I doubt she would do more than laugh and probably agree on her way to the bank what are you wanting people to say 'Ahh she looks adorably young and wrinkle free only looks about 50'
Maybe this is considered catty but I couldn't help thinking that they put Ed Balls in the worse type of costume possible it eventuated the rather large belly
Talking of young well I was a minute ago I personally thought Will a Young was very bland ...is that catty ?

DaphneBroon Sun 02-Oct-16 14:45:31

You can't win you know Blue Belle!! smile but I so agree with you.
?Or ? I reserve the right to express my opinion!

Conni7 Sun 02-Oct-16 14:48:29

I record it. Then you can wizz through all the shrieks and chatter.

gulligranny Sun 02-Oct-16 15:19:03

Surely Gransnet isn't going to go the way of student "safe places" where no opinion other than theirs can be expressed for fear of upsetting others?!

Putting in my two-pennorth, I think Lesley Joseph's hair is much too black but it is her look and trademark. Will Young is sweet but bland, Daisy Lowe is so beautiful it makes my chest hurt, Danny Mac is sensational. Naga looked ok with the long wig but her own short style is far better; Ed Balls, whom I loathed as a politician, comes over as the sort of guy you'd enjoy having round for a meal and a few glasses of wine and a good laugh. And I love Craig Revel Horwood, as does my 10-year-old grandson!

merlotgran Sun 02-Oct-16 15:27:57

Grey permed hair??? shock shock shock

Jane10 Sun 02-Oct-16 15:37:16

Can I come to that dinner party too gulligranny? Can I bring Judge Rinder and Tameka? Would be a fun evening.

Falconbird Sun 02-Oct-16 15:47:31

Lesley Joseph is about one year older than me and I admire her courage. Len Goodman is about the same age. They both look their age I think but who would expect them to look youthful in their 70s it's unrealistic.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 02-Oct-16 17:01:57

LJ was on a special edition of What Not to Wear in 2002 and given a makeover by Trinny and Susannah. IIRC she was given a 'softer' look, no thick black eyeliner and lighter hair (I think). She looked amazing, but she didn't like her new look at all and changed everything back to black. I think she has her 'look' and sticks with it. She regularly plays the wicked witch in panto and has spent decades now playing Dorien, Jewish women, witches and gypsies. At her age she knows exactly how to make the best of herself in front of an audience. She can certainly dance and I hope she's having a whale of a time.

gulligranny Sun 02-Oct-16 17:05:32

Certainly Jane 10, delighted you can come. I'm not so sure about Judge Rinder, although he was very lovely with his grandparent so yeah, go ahead and invite him. Just please don't ask Tess ....

Jane10 Sun 02-Oct-16 17:49:30

Claudia? She's so daft she'd fit right in.

gulligranny Sun 02-Oct-16 18:12:32

Claudia - do we have to? It's that head-tilted-back squinting through the fringe that annoys me.

Jalima Sun 02-Oct-16 18:30:59

Claudia - do we have to? shock

She's so sweet and lovely, and her hair is tied back when she's dancing. I think she would be a lovely addition to the dinner party.
No more handstands though! Just dance.

Jalima Sun 02-Oct-16 18:33:15

although she could demonstrate a floor routine around your living room while we watch in awe gulligranny - hope you have room!
