Our Hilda, loved and cherished for her quick tongue, kind heart and beautiful singing hmm has been called to the Heavens above, aged 90. Goodnight and God bless to one of screen's wonderful characters who I was spoon fed by since birth until she retired from Corrie in 1987. Gone to make Stan and Eddie some egg and chips love. Xxx

I wonder if there will be a "Muriel" painted to honour her?

I thought that "Tara Chuck" was the name of a girl, when I read the title of the post! grin

A brilliant character actress, loved her in Corrie and Last of the Summer Wine. Yes Ruby, Stan & Eddie will be quaking in their boots now waiting for Hilda to give them the sharp edge of her tongue.
RIP Jean.

Am I the only one who's been told Jean Alexander is Barbara Castle's sister? Is it some sort of urban myth maybe?

I was once told I sang just like Hilda Ogden washing the Rovers floor shock

Such a wonderful character . RIP Jean Alexander.

The most moving moment ever on tv for me was Hilda clutching Stans spectacles when opening the small parcel of his possessions following his death , it was so painful to watch the grief , brilliant acting

RIP Jean Alexander

Hilda and Stan, Jack and Vera, all gone. Who are the Corrie comedy couple now? Steve and Michelle? Tyrone and Fiz? Roy and Kathy? I don't think so.

RIP Jean Alexander - and thanks for the laughs.

Yes, it's just you, Barbara Castle was from Bradford, Jean Alexander from the Toxteth area of Liverpool!
I'm with Anniebach, the grief when Hilda opened Stan's glasses case came straight through the screen, brilliant acting!

I loved Hilda and Stan. The news about Jean Alexander set my OH off reminiscing about the early days of Corrie with the three senior ladies, Ena Sharples, Minnie Caldwell and ............ I had to Google it........ Martha Longhurst.
Sadly I don't watch it now as it became too ridiculous even for me.

When she got all dressed up for their annniversary or something and Stan gave her a kiss. He said 'what does that lipstick taste of?' She replied 'woman Stanley, woman'. RIP

I think the closest thing to a comedy couple is Norris and Rita. Or Sally and Tim.

RIP Hilda.

Yeah, but there's not that true deep love underneath like the old couples had. They stood by one another, faults and all. Maybe society could learn a thing or two? smile

Loved her in Last of the Summer Wine. She was always what I call 'a proper actress'.
