Prime Suspect 1973

We enjoyed it. Especially Cat Stevens and Joe Cocker as some of the background music.

We enjoyed it, too. Trouble is anything depicting the 60's/70's has my shoulders raising at the attitudes to women. Experienced some myself. Still, shoulders are now back in their normal position and I will keep watching.

I did enjoy the music but not sure about the program itself though?

I will give it another chance next week .

The book was a bit of a plodder. They seem to have got the evocation of time down to a "T" and are keeping to the book so far. Kept thinking where I was in '73, luckily somewhere with no dodgy moustaches, Wrens. I remember the ending was very good, not just because it was the end but because it was unexpected.

We enjoyed it too and the music. We'll stick with it I think.

We watched this last night and I got very annoyed with DH who has read the book and kept telling me what was going to happen next!! Then there was a loud explosion - and it was me!!

There was an afternoon series on BBC some time ago, I think it was WPC49, which was very similar to this programme with regard to the attitude toward women PC.s I found that interesting too, so will continue to watch this.

Sort of a slower version of Life on Mars but without the humour.

Still, it was pleasant enough watching.

I thought it showed the art of coarse acting was alive and well in parts, but as anya said it was pleasant enough

I'll stick with this one as I think it may well develop into an interesting series. What I really enjoyed was the period setting - it's surprising how much has changed since 1973. Most young people probably won't have a clue about Tippex. And I wanted to shout 'Get your own bloody tea, wash your own bloody dishes!'.

We have almost finished the entire original series on Netflix. Watching Helen Mirren has spoilt us a little. But we shall stick with it.

I do wish they'd chosen a different actress for the lead role. She seems perfectly competent but too pretty and over-made up. Didn't the force have rules about makeup in those days? To me, she lacks the 'something' that Helen Mirren has always had.

To be fair, not many people have got the 'something' that Helen Mirren has.

Like many of you, I thought the period feel was good but found the rest of it a bit meh.

I agree the actress playing Tennyson was too "pretty".

Not at all outraged/surprised at the tea making etc-that's exactly as things were.

Just about sums it up gettingonabit, I enjoyed the music as well. I will watch the next episode to see how things develop.

The very overweight policewoman was the big mistake. She would not have passed the medical which was much stricter in those days (my ex husband was a police officer in that era). How could she ever run after anyone? And the actress playing Tennyson had modern-day fashionable eyebrows .... none of us would have left the house without plucking those out!

I was wondering about the overweight PC too....

From the very first image of the young Tennyson I said she was too glamorous, Helen Mirren has charisma which sets her apart from pretty young things. But hopefully as the series goes along we can overlook the bad casting.

She looked more like a young Brigitte Bardot than a young Helen Mirren!

I must be a grump, because I can't get beyond the bad casting. The other characters appear and sound very credible, so why cast the main character badly?
