Strictly's Back

I've just looked at the Strictly line up and wonder if I don't watch enough TV. Who ARE these 'celebrities'? On the picture grid I recognised 3 faces and one extra with a nudge from my OH. I could name only one off the top of my head, but another one because I'd just read about them in an article about Strictly where they were arguing about whether a gay woman should dance with a woman. (She didn't want to; she said she was there to learn to dance, not to make a point about her sexuality, but felt there was pressure on her from the LBTG group.)

Truly shameful that Alexandra is in dance-off- and the Judges were truy shocked as she is quite clearly the best dancer and got 39? WHY?

DanniRae Sun 03-Dec-17 19:06:03

Oh I really want Mollie and Gemma to get through, and either Debbie or Alexandra to go. I can't warm to either of them!

TwiceAsNice Sun 03-Dec-17 19:02:37

I don't particularly like Debbie I think she is smug. She was so shocked when she was in the dance off she looked really annoyed that she as there. I also think that last night she wasn't penalised for her mistake whereas others were for theirs. I think the judges, particularly Shirley are biased in her favour

NanKate Sun 03-Dec-17 16:51:51

If the new judge, is it Shirley, leaves as suggested in the newspapers, I would like Anton to take over ? I love his humour.

I don't warm to Alexandra either, she goes all emotional and surprised when getting praise. She is a good dancer though.

Where is Susan Calman when you want her ? I miss her humour.

If ballet is so differnt to ballroom as some are saying is Darcy Bushell really the right person to judge Strictly? Now she only ever danced ballet.

kittylester Sun 03-Dec-17 16:22:25

The person I would least like to see in the final is Alexandra as I can't warm to her either. Not too keen on Mollie either - she and AJ have more than their fair share of shiny teeth. grin

suzied Sun 03-Dec-17 15:52:35

Everyone is expecting Debbie to be in the final, personally I don't want her there and would love to see peoples reaction if she isn't

nothing like taking pleasure in others misfortune is there?

Anniebach Sun 03-Dec-17 15:36:39

Knowing to place arms and feet in ballet is not knowing to place arms and feet in ballroom

ninathenana Sun 03-Dec-17 15:20:15

tchsad you could be right kitty wpuld be a shame as he's done so well.

Its not just about knowing how to point the toes, its the stamina needed for the hours of training.

Charleygirl Sun 03-Dec-17 14:43:08

I do not think that Alexandra is well liked - somehow I just do not like her. I can see herself, Debbie and Joe in the final whereas I would prefer to see Debbie, Davood and Joe.

It may be a long time since Debbie danced professionally but one never forgets where and how to place one's arms and pointing one's feet. I have never forgotten and I have rarely danced since my teens.

kittylester Sun 03-Dec-17 14:41:31

I think Davood could go tonight sad

annodomini Sun 03-Dec-17 14:38:23

I've just checked Joe's theatrical history and can't see any sign of musical theatre except 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Apart from that he has been in straight dramas. I think he will now get the Scottish vote now that Susan is out of the running - if she ever was! Not only has he made tremendous progress as a dancer, but he has an appealing, cheerful personality.

suzied Sun 03-Dec-17 13:31:30

I still think age is a factor as well not just dancing (in)experience.

suzied Sun 03-Dec-17 13:29:41

Joe has been in musical theatre

eazybee Sun 03-Dec-17 13:25:23

I think the lyrics were changed to fit in with the shortened version of the song. I don't think you can tamper with the words to avoid paying royalties; they collect on anything within fifty years copyright. I thought some of the singing was more than normally dreadful, and the whole programme last night didn't seem as slick as normal; several uncomfortable gaps.

ninathenana Sun 03-Dec-17 12:43:53

Davood is a complete novice at dancing. I think Joe is too.
Admitedly their acting experience helps with characterization but as Shirley keeps pointing out it's the technical stuff that's important.

trisher Sun 03-Dec-17 12:40:47

Doesn't mean she stopped training or dancing in her leisure time. Of course having married Paul Daniels she didn't work as a dancer she didn't need to!
It wasn't just ballet . She was part of the Second Generation. Watch them. Recognise the moves?

she stopped professional dancing before any of the other contestants were born

Good grief, that makes me feel very, very old. But you're right of course, suzied.

suzied Sun 03-Dec-17 12:01:54

So she stopped professional dancing before any of the other contestants were born, thats got to put her at a disadvantage. So people moaning about it being unfair should factor that in.

suzied Sun 03-Dec-17 11:53:18

Yes but 1980 is nearly 40 years ago and most of the others also have stage experience in musical theatre etc which includes dancing, plus ballet is not the same as ballroom, so she's had to learn all the dances same as the other contestants.

Anniebach Sun 03-Dec-17 11:53:06

1980, that's thirty seven years ago, doubt she continued with those high kicks etc, big difference between 22 and 59

trisher Sun 03-Dec-17 11:38:54

Debbie didn't just have ballet training suzied she danced professionally in the Iranian ballet for 3 years. She then joined a stage company called Second Generation and danced professionally until at least 1980. So lots of training and professional experience.

suzied Sun 03-Dec-17 11:32:46

I'm hoping Debbie gets to the final, could hardly watch those lifts and spins last night. Just read that Theresa May is supporting her, which may be the kiss of death though. People who criticise her having ballet training should remember this was over 40 years ago! And its not the same as ballroom. Most of the remaining contestants have also danced on stage in musicals, pop group, stage schools etc.

AyjayF
It's all to do with royalties. If you copy a song to the letter, you pay. If you change it, you don't.
