Did anyone watch this? I was surprised to realise abortion is still a criminal act if it isn't performed within the perimeters of the act. And the stories of the women who had non-surgical abortions and miscarried in public places was appalling It's time things were changed to take account of new procedures. Taking the pills in the comfort and safety of home should be permitted.

People will obtain abortions whether they're legal or not. That's the dilemma, really.

I've had a miscarriage in the first 12wks and quite honestly, I didn't see anything resembling a lost life form, it was simply an unpleasant mess.

Nobody is talking about killing babies.
A parasitic fetus is not a baby.
A clump of cells is not a baby.

It's has no rights. And it has no life

The individual woman who is a living, breathing and functioning being however has all the rights to do whatever she pleases to do with her own body. Especially when those actions do not affect anyone else.

Abortion is murder, I'm sorry if anyone here does not agree but I think some women use abortion as a means of birth control. If you don't babies don't have unprotected sex, simple.

I really feel for you, your daughter and family Sparklefizz. To Serekeen and Maddy, you're very judgemental and everybody's circumstances are different.

In that case maddy629 if a man kicks his pregnant girlfriend and she miscarries should he be tried for murder?

People have been charged with child destruction, in those circumstances. This particular charmer was sentenced to life imprisonment.

but I think some women use abortion as a means of birth control

Well duh.

100% of women who have an abortion are using it as birth control.

They don't want to proceed with the pregnancy and give birth so they have an abortion.

Which is their right.

Abortions will always be with us . As will unplanned pregnancies.
I think a number of GNres have discussed this some time ago on another thread.

Have any of you seen "Long lost families" and those now elderly woman who had to give their babies away as parents refused to allow the mother to keep the baby or such.
Some illegitimate children were possibly registered as the mother's child, instead of the daughter of the family. Or the child grew up not knowing that their supposed mother was their grandmother. caused a lot of difficult family and lies. (Eastenders had that one. )
There were lots of illegal abortions at those times which went wrong. Be thankful for what we have now.
We are people and people are fallible.

I come at this from a different angle. My son was born naturally and very unexpectedly at 25 weeks. He is now 33 years old and thankfully has suffered no long term problems. I am not anti abortion but do have a problem accepting it as late as 24 weeks.

maryeliza54 Sat 21-Oct-17 20:48:18

But it’s very rare after 24 weeks and for very very sad reasons and the vast majority of babies born before 25 weeks do have long term problems if they survive

maryeliza54 Sat 21-Oct-17 21:04:10

If you don’t accept abortion after 24 weeks you are saying that you accept the death of the mother or the birth of a baby that has a condition incompatible with life outside the womb - do you really want that?
