Glad I read this thread, as I had missed watching the programme. Caught up with part one last night, and enjoyed it very much. But, why on earth did he have to go to Australia in order to find more information on Mr Street? I shall catch up with part 2 later.

Yes, the presenter is a bit of alright!
I especially like his quiet presenting style, so many think they have to be ‘characters’.

The owners/tenants of the house lead interesting/ tragic/ turbulent lives and die so young.

The brilliant (and gorgeous) David Olugosa , together with Mary Beard and Simon Schama, will soon be presenting an updated version of Kenneth Clark's Civilizations series.

Fascinating programme! Love it. What turbulent lives they experienced in this one house.
It was originally (and is again now) a middle class home - I really wouldn't have expected all that trauma.
I must have a look at that Bill Bryson book Tegan.

Really interesting programme. Unusual way of exploring social history, and yes, makes me want to visit Liverpool again.
I’ll look up Bryson’s At Home. Stephen McGann’s book Flesh and Blood is fascinating too. It follows his family through the generations, focussing on their health problems. Much of their lives were lived in Liverpool.

A really good programme such a beautiful house how fortunate are the family who now live there, the programme shows Liverpool at its best such imposing houses and buildings,I was taken aback at the interior of The Ageon Mens Club what a magnificent staircase and reception room.
I can spend all afternoon walking through these Streets when I go over to Town I never get tired of our history in Liverpool.

Such an interesting and enjoyable programme. So glad to know others are watching and enjoying it, I have spoken to several friends about it and had blank looks. Seemed to think wouldn't be interesting as it was only about a house. It's fascinating what has happened there. Must agree with niggleynellie he is rather nice!!!!

I enjoyed that and want to watch more. The social and politic context was given as well.
A number of my ancestors moved to Liverpool from Chester when the railways came in the 1840s.

I am in full agreement with Jane10s views on the gorgeous presenter David Olusoga. What am I like I turn 70 next month!

I lived "across the water" from Liverpool in the 1950s and used to go to the dentist in Rodney Street, just round the corner from Falkner Street where this house is situated.

It has brought back so many memories and made me want to go on a nostalgic visit to retrace my youthful steps. Love Liverpool.

I was wondering if anyone was watching this. It's repeated on Saturday evening so I've been watching it then. I'm finding it fascinating - very interesting viewing.

I'm loving it, too, And would recommend Bill Brysons book 'At Home' in which he goes from room to room in his house and goes off at tangents talking about what was happening at various times since the house was built in the 1800's.

Yes, it is fascinating. The amount of drama/misfortune experienced by many of the house's inhabitants is incredible. It just goes to show how life can turn on a sixpence, and also shows how deceptive appearances can be. And that is just in the first two episodes!
