How good to have Shetland back, after the disappointing new ones of Endeavour and Silent Witness.
What an ending to first of the series!
And Tosh is staying, was sorry when they made it look as if she was going to be leaving at the end of the last series.

That’s a relief that Iam not the only person who wouldn’t visit Shetland.

Charleygirl5 Thu 14-Feb-19 09:29:45

NanKate I am Scottish and also find Shetland very bleak- so much so I would never visit there. I do not think the series is an advert for the next holiday.

Another ditto here

So did I, but when the new series started they described ‘the stunning landscape’ or similar words. I find Shetland bleak. Are there any trees ? No offence to anyone who likes that sort of vista or is Scottish. I feel the same about the Falklands.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode.

And another!

Good to have it back once again, as usual it will keep us guessing until the end.

I enjoyed it, Jimmy Perez is quite dishy. I've just read the last book in this series which was excellent. Ann Cleeves doesn't think the Shetland setting can be taken any further, she is writing a new detective series which I await with interest.

I thought I had gone mad, who was this woman with all the locks on her door standing by a lit window? The episode I saw was about a Nigerian found in bits on the beach!! Then I looked at the dates of the post. Silly me.

Glad to have Shetland back, we enjoy the noir.

Not for me. Can see this is going to be one long, torturous and dragged-out programme that should have been cleared up in a couple of hours ‘like wot Vera does’.

Ach Jane its Scotland I know lots of second generation Scots who are called Stewart or Hamish alongside their Asian or Chinese names .Makes life interesting

paddyann Wed 13-Feb-19 00:16:39

Love Dougie Henshall dont think I've ever seen him in something he wasn't good in .So pleased its back .

callgirl1 Wed 13-Feb-19 00:11:16

The new series has started off well, loved it.

I did wonder why this chap with fading ginger hair was called Perez! He's very good in the part though.

annodomini Sun 25-Mar-18 22:30:40

There I go again - sorry!

annodomini Sun 25-Mar-18 22:30:15

I agree, mcem. If you've read the books, Dougie Henshall isn't an authentic Perez, though he is a fine actor. I have to confess that I prefer the books.

And don't forget that Anne Cleeves' Shetland books are readily available. I actually preferred elements of the books. Never worked out why Dougie Henshall was cast as the darkly handsome Perez of the books but he did an excellent job!

Jane10 Sun 25-Mar-18 21:16:30

Loved the pace of Shetland. Quiet, thoughtful Perez is a nice change from other cop shows. You don't expect detectives to be so kind. Scenery and atmosphere great but, somehow, I don't fancy going there. Too bleak.

Absolutely love Hinterland. Always go that way when going to N Wales. Beautifully bleak. Also like the actors and the excellent stories When is the next series ?

lemongrove Sun 25-Mar-18 21:10:32

Thank you smile

Welshwife Sun 25-Mar-18 21:08:10

They did two versions of Hinterland - one in Welsh and one in English - three series I think - the two language versions are filmed at the same time to keep the continuity etc.
They are due to show the Welsh version of Hidden and then and English one on BBC Wales before the other regions. It has not aired on BBC Wales yet.

Am missing Shetland already!
