I thought a new start might be appropriate.

The whole Alice thing is something they SWs have been building up to. Will she leave her job? I would not have thought that Brian was in a position to offer anyone a job, even family, with prison hanging over his head.

I wondered about the job thing as well, Luckygirl. It's true that farming families like to keep their family involved especially if it's a large enterprise but what is Brian going to find for Alice?

MawBroon Wed 21-Mar-18 22:05:17

There was a time not long ago when I thought Alice and Chris were heading for the marital rocks.
As a character she brings very little to the storyline apart from being a spoilt brat (like Kate)
Adam is the only one of that family I warm to.

I put this on the other thread but I think it bears repeating as it shows that they were trying to round out Nic's character before the death of Matt. It's written by the actress who play Nic on the BBC Archer's page.

The episode in which Nic slapped George was a pivotal moment for the character. Things were never going to be the same after that single action. It was a real catalyst for change for Nic and the culmination of months of work.

I remember spending ages reading and rethinking the script to get it right. The scenes were beautifully written and really highlighted how emotionally fragile and volatile she had become.

I had forgotten her slapping George.

Who is George and why did she slap him?
As someone who came back to the Archers only at the time of the Helen/Rob drama I don't know many of the back stories. I've had to find out about various plots (like the culvert story).
When was the slap incident?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Mar-18 08:25:30

George is Emma and Will's son mcem. He spent time with Nic and Will.

mcem Thu 22-Mar-18 08:43:53

Aaaah I think that rings a bell. I assume that's why Will and Edward haven't been on good terms until now? Ta.

MawBroon Thu 22-Mar-18 09:12:22

Sibling rivalry compounded by the Emma/Ed affair, Will’s good fortune financially as well as in his work whereas poor Ed seems to have no luck at all.

mcem for you en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Archers#Programme_synopsis

As someone who listened to the episode where GA died I really cannot have posters coming on this thread to ask who George is ??

merlotgran Thu 22-Mar-18 09:28:45

I can see Will moving into Grange Farm with Poppy and Ed and Emma taking on Greenwood Cottage or whatever it's called because Ed is working for Home Farm now so qualifies. The older two will come and go, just like George.

That way they won't have to worry about a deposit for one of the new builds.

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:32:16

Oh no ? don’t become a tied tenant Emma - get your deposit.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:33:28

I did wonder what they will do about the older two children. They are not Wills and they do have a father and a grandmother. I don't know how it works but the time they had at Will and Nic's was surely to see their mother? I did wonder not seeing as much of them (hate the thought really) could be one more blow for Will.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:34:06

not if not

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:38:24

Could Justin’s development be eligible for the Help to Buy scheme? I’ve often thought about starting an Archers Advice Thread as the RL issues of benefit entitlements etc seems to pass the village by, I do wonder who will help Will with probate and if Nic had a will ( I guess not) also who helps Will with his tax affairs given he is a landlord.

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:40:54

If I were the children’s grandmother, I would want them back with our side if the family ( with regular visits to the Grundy side of course). There’s a good story line in that isn’t there?

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:44:08

I thought that is what might happen maryeliza. In a way I would worry if I was the grandmother or father as Wills is understandably very wrapped in Poppy.

merlotgran Thu 22-Mar-18 09:44:33

The SWs like to write out children until after their GCSEs. Ben, for example and Freddy and Lily were silent for years. I expect Mia and Jake will go back to their father and Clarrie will help bring up Poppy.

I suppose it's all going to hinge on what happens to Home Farm.

mcem Thu 22-Mar-18 09:50:00

Thank you for the Ed/Will references.
Wikipedia has just filled in a few gaping holes!

GracesGranMK2 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:50:23

A builder in our nearby town got planning permission for a small housing development with the condition that there were a percentage of "affordable" houses. He arranged to do the "affordable" ones elsewhere in the town - a much cheaper area. I always felt this did not help with the 'mix' of housing but I could see Justin doing that and building the affordable ones in Borchester or even Felpersham. I just can't see this going well for Ed and Emma although I hope it does.

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 09:56:18

Wills is truly horrible and as I have now assumed the online mantle of Jake and Mia’s dgm I need to find an online forum that will give me some advice on the rights of grandparents - any suggestions

MawBroon Thu 22-Mar-18 13:36:53

What makes you say Will is horrible?
Nobody is perfect and the animus with Ed is perfectly understandable.
Now as a young father grieving and in shock, we should not be too quick to judge.

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 13:58:57

He’s been horrible for years and was emotionally abusive towards Nic

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 13:59:41

When I say years I mean well before it came out about Ed and Emma

maryeliza54 Thu 22-Mar-18 14:00:39

And the opposite of horrible isn’t perfect - I know lots of people who are neither

merlotgran Thu 22-Mar-18 15:13:14

I think the SWs have a lot of scope with Will's character now. He's had the wind taken out of his sails and sounded stunned during the funeral. I wonder how he will react to Alice's behaviour?

I've never liked him but it will be interesting to see how he copes with life without Nic and the problems at Home Farm which could affect his job.
