I agree always worth a rewatch.

This is why I love The Yorkshire Vet' so much. So reminiscent of 'James Herriot' particularly Peter, the 'Herriot' trainee!

I have recorded this film and plan to watch it soon. I loved all the James Herriot books and the tv series too.

James Herriot's books were such a big part of my childhood. I loved the old TV series too. Visited the museum (the old house and surgery) a couple of years ago on a trip through Yorkshire. Haven't seen this film version, I'll have to have a look on iplayer.

Lovely gentle Yorkshire humour. The car, an old Riley that Seigfried gave to James was actually my late MILs. She sold it to a company that leases to TV programme makers, it was becoming too expensive to have replacement parts hand made.
I loved that car, soft top and running boards, in anticipation of the first grandchild, she would take me out for a spin over bumpy roads, the old Riley really didn't have much suspension so much bumpiness ensued.
I drove it a couple of times, like being in control of a non-directional tank. Happy memories.

Oops, could have been an old Hillman, last drove it in 1975, it was a vintage car even then.

James Herriot (Arthur White) was our vet when we lived in Topcliffe in the early 70’s, such a beautiful place to live, I always hoped I’d get back to Yorkshire one day.

Think his name was James Alfred 'Alf' Wight.?!

How exciting LadyGracie, that you met Alf Wight (James Herriot). I hope he was as nice a man as he came across as James Herriot? His wife in the books - Helen - was always portrayed as a lovely person but I did once read that she was not lovely at all?
I have read all the books - as I have already said - but I have a box set of them and will read them all again one day.

I love the Yorkshire vet series too, such a positive and caring attitude from the vets and their staff.

The TV serties was responsible for us 'discovering' the dales over 30 years ago and we have been holidaying there ever since. went to live their once for a few years and I worked for a visiting hospice service named after Herriot. Looking forward to visiting and golfing at Bedale in September.

He was a very nice man, great with my rescue cats.
