How right you are Day6 I can't imagine Germaine flapping around with a trout pout and laughing at celebrities' pathetic jokes! Women do seem to be going backwards at times.

No it isn't a serious programme making points about gender roles with special references to media influences**. It is a profile of a person in her "heyday".

**I would have found that deeply boring.

The programme was about Greer not a discussion , about her younger life, her old age.

The programme was disappointing. There is a point to be made about gender roles with special reference to media influences. But the programme failed to discuss seriously. It was mainly about GG's personality. That is the fault with television . TV is a poor medium for serious discussions. TV is better at dramas which discuss serious matters, such as 'A Very English Scandal' and 'Cathy Come Home' and 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit'.

I think the same Day6. Greer has never wanted to please , doesn’t simper,is not a people pleaser, never has been. has always been her own person.

The older I get the fonder I become of straight talking, bright, to the point, articulate women like GG. She can be controversial and blunt, and I like that.
Give me one hundred GGs for one Holly Willoughby any day!

I rather like her, but I do wonder now whether she's really fulfilled her potential. She does seem to just pop up as a talking head now.

I’m quite interested in GG because my husband was at university with her in Australia. She’s about my age. In her day she was an original voice and really shocked many people. I don’t think I ever bothered to read her books. I knew women were the equal of men, didn’t need to be told! I realise now that that was because I was lucky in my upbringing.

I was interested to hear about her family and background, which I knew nothing about. She did have something to escape from and rebel against.

I get the impression she is quite a damaged person and somewhat emotionally cold. She has passions, but not towards people. She has just never fitted in and was far too clever for her background.

I'll have to find that - missed it at the weekend.
Women have certainly come far, from my first real job in the 60s, when I was the only woman with 6 men. They were always surprised when I came up with a good idea.
When I retired in the 90s women outnumbered men in that profession.

Just as magazine today display images of the women who have it all.
E.g. Juggle work, family wonderful holidays houses, cars etc .... The list goes on
