Is retiring, he is 81, why did I think he was still in his 30’s ?

Oh yes Annie and wasn't Paul Newman lovely too? I liked him better than Robert Redford, but in that uniform in The Way We were well........

I agree re The Way We Were. It's my favourite film. When Barbra Streisand sees him sitting at the bar in his uniform and quietly says 'Hubble Gardner' I know what she meant!
With apologies to Hubble for the spelling!

Great actor. He was fabulous in the Great Gatsby and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.

Anniebach Wed 08-Aug-18 08:57:42

I liked Day of The Condor too.

So glad he is retiring and nothing more final. I agree, a very handsome man and fine actor. My favourite film with him was Butch Cassidy. Both him and Paul Newman. All those beautiful eyes!

Me too! That chap in the sofa ad reminds me of RR somehow. Maybe the same colouring. Though on another thread, he was described as unattractive. The sofa man, not RR (of course).

I liked him in Indecent Proposal ,, ,and Yes I probably would !!!!

Welshwife Tue 07-Aug-18 20:14:58

Yes it was - it came up when I was doing a tad of googling! Was an interesting film though.
I loved the Sting but think it is better when seen subsequent times as things start to fall into place as to why they were done.

Blinko Tue 07-Aug-18 20:09:26

Wasn't that Brad Pitt in Seven Years in Tibet? Unless RR was co star?

TerriBull Tue 07-Aug-18 20:06:35

Butch Cassidy, if it's deemed a Western, was one of the few of that genre that I really enjoyed. I was in my teens at the the time but remember going to see it more than once. Other than that loved The Way We Were and Out of Africa. I remember a boyfriend dragging me off to see The Sting and not liking that very much.

Took me a minute there Day6 but grin

paddyann 'The Way we Were' - what you said. Nodding. He certainly was gorgeous in his youth.

There is a film on Netflix and the moment called (I think) Our Souls at Night. He is old in that, but still lovely. (Unfortunate name for a film if you have an accent like mine and run the first two words together.) confused

Welshwife Tue 07-Aug-18 19:46:45

The man in the film was Austrian not Australian - will try and put brain back in gear!!

annodomini Tue 07-Aug-18 19:40:09

I loved him as Denys Finch-Hatton in Out of Africa. One of my favourite films as I could recognise so many of the locations. But for me he will always be the Sundance Kid!

Welshwife Tue 07-Aug-18 19:17:38

The film - Seven Years in Tibet - is a very interesting film. A true story about an Australian man who taught the young Dalai Lama about the outside world. I came across it quite by chance some years ago but would love to see it again.

paddyann Tue 07-Aug-18 19:14:40

mcem maybe you'll get it on Amzon prime .

jusnoneed Tue 07-Aug-18 18:48:53

Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid is the only film I went to the cinema to watch twice.

Anniebach Tue 07-Aug-18 18:38:46

He is still in his 30’s for me ?

lemongrove Tue 07-Aug-18 18:36:56

That’s the thing about old films, an actor is set in a certain time and can be 30 forever!
I never found him attractive though, and he aged badly IMHO whereas an actor like Paul Newman aged well.

MiniMoon Tue 07-Aug-18 18:02:44

I loved Robert Redford in The Natural, a film about a baseball player. If you haven't seen it, seek it out.

mcem Tue 07-Aug-18 17:58:22

Now I want to see The Way We Were again but can't get it on netflix!

Fennel Tue 07-Aug-18 17:21:36
