Just switched over to this and OMG the Botox, the trout pouts, the dyed blondes, the gilding, the glitz .....the tack, the tat, the total lack of taste.
This is Trumpland indeed!
However I am beginning to understand the Trump fan base.

Deedaa ? yup, totally agree.

I really think Ed deserved an Oscar for his straight face when shown into that awful woman's house, or should I say that woman's awful house! The only half decent people seemed to be the squirrel hunters, who were at least a good natured family.

I hope Ed carries on with this investigative stuff. He's got a real gift for getting on with people and finding out what they really feel.

Last night was the last one.

Ed Balls is a good sport isn't he, going along with all that.
I've spent some time with Redneck Republicans and they really are like that, but how many really would believe that Obama wanted Iran to have a nuclear weapon I doubt.
One thing for certain they really did hate Obama with a passion and Hillary was not much better.
I look forward to next episode

Toni Holt Kramer, a Hollywood journalist turned wealthy socialite - according to Google

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Aug-18 17:23:13

we missed the beginning of the programme, perhaps they mentioned it then.

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Aug-18 17:22:50

I wonder what her background is (can't remember her name though!).

pollyperkins Mon 13-Aug-18 14:57:52

I agree -she interrupted him very rudely and didn't listen to a word he said.

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Aug-18 14:16:48

sorry, first sentence addressed to janea

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Aug-18 14:16:25

I must admit that my experience of America is extremely limited to one visit a while ago and working with a very lovely American colleague here - even longer ago now.

I wouldn't mind having a bit of work done, gillybob, but I'm too scared.

pollyperkins I don't think she let Ed get a word in edgeways, sideways, anyways!
And possibly she had no clue anyway.

pollyperkins Mon 13-Aug-18 14:07:48

I thought it was amusing that trout lipped woman Tony said to Ed that the reason they did not like Obama was that he was dragging the country into the 'pit of socialism'!! Did she realise she was speaking to a left wing politician?

gillybob Mon 13-Aug-18 13:50:27

I think there’s “having work done” and “having work done” I guess some people never know when enough is enough and they start looking just plain weird . Giant lips, pulled back, slanted eyes and chipmunk cheeks are not a good loook.

janeainsworth Mon 13-Aug-18 13:19:00

Is this typical America? Not in my admittedly limited experience, jalima.
I’ve never met anyone who has obviously ‘had work done’ and I’ve never seen anyone other than police officers carrying a gun. In New York State and in Virginia and possibly other states, it’s illegal to openly carry a gun.
We’ve met some people who confessed to being Trump supporters but none of them
were so strident or evangelical as those Ed met.
We’ve also met many Democrats who are appalled at the present state of affairs.

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Aug-18 12:52:29

Goodness Gracious - Ed Balls of Fire!!
grin

Jalima1108 Mon 13-Aug-18 12:49:23

This is the first episode I have watched and I must say it was quite an eye-opener.

I agree - a total lack of taste - do these women, the one Ed stayed with in particular, think that they look good? Really?

Two things struck me - one was the way in which these women ignored those who were waiting on them - possibly immigrants that they do not want in America? and the way she talked right over the top of Ed and demonstrated her appalling manners.

The other side of the coin was shown in the redneck Trump supporters, rushing off into the woods with their guns, shooting randomly without checking for anyone who could be strolling past.

Is this typical America?

I have to take my hat off to him for being tasered. That must have hurt like hell, but he did it.

janeainsworth Mon 13-Aug-18 11:17:56

For anyone who missed this first time round wink
Dontcha just love him? grin

I would pay a fortune not to look that that grin but fortunately I don’t have to.

mcem Mon 13-Aug-18 10:38:59

Don't know if I could bear to watch these awful women - and they're Trump supporters too!
Do they all use the same surgeon and does he use a standard template?
To think they pay a fortune to look like that.
I may try to see if I can get past this as I like Ed Balls but think they'll distract me!

Jane43 Mon 13-Aug-18 10:16:37

I must watch this on Catch Up.

TerriBull Mon 13-Aug-18 10:13:30

I really like Ed when he came out as a "real person" on Strictly, I think he was quite brave, he must have known how his efforts were going to be received by waspish Craig RH, but nevertheless threw himself into the spirit of the programme with gusto. I haven't seen "Travels in Trumpland", only snippets, I may well catch up with it on IPlayer. Another who threw off the political mantle quite a while ago is Michael Portillo who also doesn't seem to worry about making a bit of a tit of himself at times, whilst travelling around Britain clutching his Bradshaws Now he goes overseas as well! I'd love that job envy

gillybob Mon 13-Aug-18 10:05:58

But he would have had to work under him today Annie which was my point .

Blinko Mon 13-Aug-18 09:59:03

GrannyGravy, love it!

I'm also fascinated by this programme. Ed Balls comes across as someone you'd like to know. Unlike too many of the interviewees. Gross!

Anniebach Mon 13-Aug-18 09:58:12

Ed worked for Gordon Brown was with him when labour won the first election. He certaintly isn’t from the Corbyn party.

Jane10 Mon 13-Aug-18 09:36:57

He seems to be articulate, well informed and sensible. I always liked him. He seems very happy in this new role which suits him very well.
Wish he'd return to politics though!
