There's a new series starting tonight at 9 pm on BBC1 called "The Bodyguard". The I described it as "gripping stuff", "electrifying thriller".

I was wondering what would happen if he was replaced - she was implying that they could then have a real relationship, but that wouldn't be possible, would it? The new bodyguard wouldn't let him near her. The only way they can continue their intimacy is if he stays in post.

I think the sex stuff is silly. It adds nothing at all to the narrative. A suggestion would have been so much more powerful.

HildaW Wed 05-Sept-18 12:17:08

In answer to the question did she want him off duties....surely all she had to do was ask for a replacement? Its not up to him. Hey ho.....who knows, that's just my point - I get the whole ambiguity of plot thing, it makes for interesting drama but when everything is questionable it becomes a muddle. Its definitely a plot driven story but we do need to feel some sort of connection with at least one character....one has to be likeable or create sympathy or just interest. At the moment its so confused (I think I said I was rooting for Lavender after episode 2) now her apparent soppiness just does not ring true of an intelligent driven woman. Not that I am saying an intelligent driven woman should not have such a relationship....its just not believable in this drama.

Line of Duty is in a special league of fantastic tv - each series gripping and brilliant.
Bodyguard is only at episode 3 - Lavender may have suggested he leave his post as bodyguard because of his questions about how she knew his children's school.
I'm looking forward to Sunday - how bad will her injuries be, who planted the bomb? As with Line of Duty, we aren't sure who is a Good person and who is up to no good.

oldbatty Tue 04-Sept-18 19:28:31

not a patch on Line of Duty. That was excellent. I don't care about Lavender and I don't care about vest man,

Ilovecheese Tue 04-Sept-18 18:46:56

But was she going all soppy or did she just want him taken off bodyguard duty because she knows he is supposed to be spying on her?

HildaW Tue 04-Sept-18 17:45:46

It did cornergran.....think what killed it for me was when Lavender went all soppy and asked him to be with her through choice not the job. I could understand her enjoying a physical relationship....but we have been given nothing to show there was anything else.

cornergran Tue 04-Sept-18 17:38:35

Totally lost interest and very disappointed. It began so well.

Grannyknot Tue 04-Sept-18 15:20:32

I agree. Embarrassing.

oldbatty Tue 04-Sept-18 14:21:38

Lol granny. Bloody stupid and totally unnecessary.

Grannyknot Tue 04-Sept-18 13:55:55

grin

I wish I had been busy with my knitting when the HS had her hand down her knickers! shock.

Lazigirl Tue 04-Sept-18 13:11:50

Luckily I don't knit smile

grannyticktock Tue 04-Sept-18 11:58:04

Grannyknot, that last post of yours must sum up getting older in a single sentence - didn't see the bum because I was looking at my knitting!

Grannyknot Mon 03-Sept-18 17:56:33

I read about the bum (in the paper today) but must have been looking down at my knitting at that moment, because I never saw it!

We're also watching another CIA-type-international-terrorist-fighting series on Amazon Prime (Jack Ryan) and I keep confusing them and asking a question of husband that relates to one when I'm watching the other. Must concentrate. grin

callgirl1 Mon 03-Sept-18 17:20:59

Very nice bum!

Lazigirl Mon 03-Sept-18 16:48:27

It's not just you Eloethan I was confused with Keeping Faith and in this one. It annoys my DH when I keep asking him to explain stuff. I also found the sex scenes unreliastic Grannyknot because there was so little chemistry between them. No build up at all - but did you see the bum??? grin

trisher Mon 03-Sept-18 14:02:06

I enjoyed most of it. I think he's in trouble. They are looking for someone and I think his connections with the shooter are about to come out, and from there it's downhill all the way.

grannyticktock Mon 03-Sept-18 12:37:10

Thanks for that link, Grannyknot. It helped me chew over the various things I'd noticed, as well as some I'd missed.

HildaW Mon 03-Sept-18 12:36:30

Think I'm with you ffinnochio....suddenly found myself thinking it was all getting a bit silly.....too many threads and too many cynical 'red herrings' as it were. Shame because at first I thought it was very gripping.

ffinnochio Mon 03-Sept-18 11:17:26

CBA

ffinnochio Mon 03-Sept-18 11:16:57

Gone off it! Unnecessarily obtuse in parts, blindingly obvious in others. Clunky and tiresome. cAB to watch any more.

Grannyknot Mon 03-Sept-18 09:25:27

Nana I think his name was Longcross. There is a lot of double crossing to keep up with.

You can read up on an episode guide but BEWARE OF SPOILERS and don't click on the link if you haven't yet watched Episode 3.

I think perhaps it was the young woman who came in late who had the bomb?

I'm caught up in this now and will continue to watch it, but there is zero chemistry between the leads so I'm finding that part of the storyline hard to swallow. Especially when she goes all doe eyed and says "We should be together because it is our choice".

sodapop Mon 03-Sept-18 09:05:29

I am confused by the bomb as well, I'm enjoying the series though its keeping me interested.

Eloethan Mon 03-Sept-18 00:23:30

I was also a bit confused tonight (but then I was completely confused by Keeping Faith so perhaps it's just me).

I enjoyed it but I hope things become clearer in the next episode. I think perhaps keeping things under wraps is Jed Mercurio's style. In Line of Duty it was often dificult to know what people were up to, and who were the "goodies" and who were the "baddies".

The bomb scene at the end was I thought similar to a scene in The Handmaid's Tale.
