Excellent start to this new series ,brilliant edge of the seat scenes on the train.I've never come across this actor before but he is very believable.I'm looking forward to tomorrows instalment.I suppose it should have been expected that it was good as its from the people who made Line of Duty ,one of my favourite series'

oldbatty Mon 10-Sept-18 19:13:25

she's in a wheel chair

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Sept-18 20:13:02

What happened to the nice quiet bloke in the jacket and pullover, he suddenly seems to have become very Machiavelian!

Is that the one who handed the briefcase to Mahmood?
If so, I never trusted him from the start, I think he's very shifty.

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Sept-18 20:13:17

sorry, that was to trisher

trisher Mon 10-Sept-18 20:45:43

He's the one who came to committee meetings, but rarely said anything. But he warned the one who gave the briefcase to Mahmood to keep his mouth shut when the talked to the police. He was suddenly quite scary

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Sept-18 20:47:33

Oh yes, him. Is he acting Home Secretary now?

trisher Mon 10-Sept-18 21:00:03

Yes think so. So he had a reason for getting rid of her!

Jalima1108 Mon 10-Sept-18 21:01:05

He didn't like her policies, but it does seem a bit drastic!

Iam64 Mon 10-Sept-18 21:30:10

Just catching up with this. I’m relieved not to be alone in believing the Home Secretary isn’t dead . She’s being protected and kep hidden to avoid further attempts on her life ?. David’s portrayal of PTSD is brilliant. It’s like Line of Duty in confusing us about who to trust

petra Mon 10-Sept-18 22:34:19

jalima
No, the acting Home Secretary is the older bald chap with glasses.
The only problem I'm having is that the chap who handed the case over was the complete idiot in Motherland. He was hilarious in that.

maryeliza54 Mon 10-Sept-18 23:06:47

I think she is dead - the same writer killed her off in Line of Duty so he does have form re the killing of KH. I think he’s too interesting a writer to use the old chestnut of pretending she is dead when she isn’t.

gillybob Tue 11-Sept-18 06:39:53

Yes petra you are right . The acting HS is not the person who handed over the briefcase .

gillybob Tue 11-Sept-18 06:53:22

I think , The acting HS and the guy that handed over the briefcase ?????

kittylester Tue 11-Sept-18 06:54:27

He was hilarious in Motherland wasn't he. His name is Paul Ready (possibly!!) - he was rebuffed by Julia when he tried to kiss her early on.

I've just watched it and disappointment has set in!

I can't believe that a police officer who'd been involved in the train, sniper attack and fatal bomb and who'd come so close to death in all three, wouldn't be sent on sick leave for a while, instead he's left to roam the streets of London looking permanently puzzled.

And the soppy touchy-feely over-long interview of would-be bomber Nadia - it was like pulling teeth.

As for the ex-wife wearing her nurses uniform having dinner with him and the kids - what's that about?

However, the involvement of the parliamentary aid, who handed over the brief case, is an interesting development so I'll keep watching!

oldbatty Tue 11-Sept-18 08:18:06

Nadia, was cringy. A cliche.

kittylester Tue 11-Sept-18 08:21:04

It's good though, isn't it!

Greyduster Tue 11-Sept-18 08:41:16

The thing about Sunday’s episode that stretched credibility was the fact that he shot himself directly in the head with a blank round and seemingly did no lasting damage. The force of the blank round at that close range would probably have shattered bone if it did nothing else. His injuries were barely noticeable.

kittylester Tue 11-Sept-18 08:52:53

I said that too gd. Which is slightly baffling as Jed Mercurio trained as a doctor!

Iam64 Tue 11-Sept-18 09:00:37

Yes, that was the thing for me - shooting yourself in the head with a blank yet only a scratch. However Greyduster, it's drama init.
It's great tv. On reflection, I suspect the KH character is indeed dead. I ddidn't see the long interview with Nadia as overly touchy feely. She's a vulnerable witness as well as someone who failed to set off the bomb she was carrying. I'm sure his work in Afghanistan will have enhanced his skills at getting information from people without torturing them.

Love it, shame Keely Hawes (excellent actress.....not going to call her actor hate that handle) is out the picture. but as someone else said the writer has form in killing off his lead characters. Big fan of Line of Duty which he writes to.

PECS Tue 11-Sept-18 09:30:57

Why not actor? Think that is what most actors, male & female prefer.

Too many implausibles for me in this tale..though I realise it is a tale and has had some great scenes and acting!

I would think that David would himself being closely monitored as a potential 'double agent' ..his ability to get into the hospital and close to where Home Sec was seemed unlikely.. also very low key security at hospital. I echo concerns re the damage from the blank, the fact his wife had to have her uniform on in case we forgot she was a nurse and wondered how she could expertly remove fragments from her estranged husband's head. I missed a bit..have they linked David to the guy who shot up the Home Sec's car?? Still worry for national security if not!

pollyperkins Tue 11-Sept-18 10:26:52

I too dislike the term actor for women. It seems to me we have mixed messages on terminology when aiming for equality. Why is actor correct but chairman wrong ('chair' sounds like a piece of furniture). Headmaster/mistress is now wrong -it is headteacher. But hymns have been changed to remove references to mankind /brethren / brothers which clearly are intended to include women. So why is the masculine form correct for female actors?
Sorry -a bit off topic I know.

Greyduster Tue 11-Sept-18 10:41:03

I am also beginning to wonder about the role of the Chief Whip/ex husband in all this. He can’t exist just to make nasty remarks to David, and we haven’t seen him do much else yet, or have I missed something?

trisher Tue 11-Sept-18 11:32:00

polly how do the terms mankind/brethren/brothers include women? They are terms coined when women were largely ignored and were considered inferior. They did not include women!
actor is accepted as non- gender specific. Chairman is obviously gender specific.
The new HS told the man with the briefcase to keep his mouth shut when talking to the police. Is it to do with the bombing or some other misdemeanor?

kittylester Tue 11-Sept-18 11:34:24

Maybe it was about the information they had on the pm? Possibly! confused
