Thought the actual filming was lovely but Joanna is the most patronising woman .The way she spoke to the carpet weaver was shocking,talking DOWN to people is not acceptable .

She is 72.

It is a wise woman who knows what to cover up!

She just seems to get on so well with the people she meets. Genuine old fashioned charm I suppose. A rare commodity these days.

I agree that she's not a great actress. She's a fantastic presenter though.

The camera man was right about the turban. They don't suit her. She looked like she'd just got out of a very hot bath.

Love her clothes though. Fabulous series.

Have you noticed JL wears different clothes for every change of place she visits. They must have a van load of different outfits. She looks wonderful in them all.

Now here is the not so charitable remark. I noticed when one of her trouser legs was slightly raised she has very mottled legs. Perhaps that is why she always keeps her legs covered up.

That's true Jane - I take it all back!

Luckygirl I didn't think she was seeking out wealth and opulence. That Istanbul visit was to emphasise the wealth that centuries of trading had led to. Those animal herders certainly didn't lead an opulent lifestyle nor did the hard working cheesemakers.

I watched and enjoy seeing all the different places. I find JL rather sugary though. The thing that niggles me with all these travel series is when they say that they are worried about getting lost or finding certain places. As if they make all the arrangements themselves.

I did enjoy the programme in many ways; but felt mildly irritated by the fact that she was seeking out wealth and opulence.

I think she's lovely! Such good fun with the daft things she says. I always enjoy her travel programmes. She's so enthusiastic and seems to charm everyone.

I enjoyed the programme. It was great seeing places I'm never likely to see in reality. I find Joanna Lumley OTT and sometimes she seems completely bonkers, eg. when she was doing those galloping and horse-neighing noises while exploring a place for travellers to stay and tie up their animals. I do wonder how that translates for the people with her!

I remember when she did a programme about seeing the Northern Lights. When the Lights suddenly appeared, she gasped, clutched her cheeks and said "It's as if they knew I was waiting!" Off the wall....

But having said that, I shall be watching the whole series. I don't think she should be a "Dame" though. Her acting skills are fairly rubbish. She just plays posh birds. Her speaking voice is lovely but that's all she can do. Nowadays it seems to me that people are honoured just for growing old.

not really a fan ,I did like her in Ab Fab but think she's overated otherwise.Why should she be a "dame" lilypollen ? Out of date honours for an actress surely the best awards are from her peers and fans for her craft .The only "dame2 there should be is a pantomime one .

She eats bananas. If you can look that good on bananas I'm upping my Sainsbury order.

I was looking forward to this programme, and it didn't disappoint. I like Joanna Lumley and her style of presenting. I have visited Venice, Istanbul and Cappadocia. My parents lived in Ankara for 2 years in the late 1970's so my sisters and I had holidays there. My Dad made an excellent tour guide. The Fairy Chimneys and the rock churches in Cappadocia are beautiful. I was inside the same beautifully decorated church that Joanna visited.
I was transported back to my 20s. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

I watched this this afternoon and loved it.
I really like JL i love her soft voice with just a hint of poshness, she is charming, and i believe she would be a very good friend if you were in her circle.Yes she is very lucky to do these programs and wear beautiful stylish clothes which no doubt do cost the earth but why not,she is an ambassador for GB when aboard and i bet she knocks the men dead with her looks, blonde hair, beautiful voice and charm.

she apparently " doesn't do food"

I enjoyed it and it certainly made me wanty to visit these places, but felt it was a bit lightweight - unlike her luggage. Skimming the surface and visiting places not available to the average traveller and much as I like JL I do find her a tad gushy at times!

That case certainly did look heavy! I'm sure they would have had local "minders" especially when travelling in those very remote areas. The countryside was so beautiful. I like her travel programmes.

No its a new series....and was enjoyable. My only reservation is that it probably does not fully reflect the hiccups and perhaps even dramas of travelling in some of these fascinating places. Methinks if one was doing it yourself it would be a lot more complicated and just a tad dangerous. I suspect she had quite a support team - that suitcase looked pretty heavy!
