Flog It to be cancelled.

I tried to copy and paste the article in the Indy but it wouldn't let me.

Apparently they want to modernise the daytime schedule but it's retired people who are mostly watching the telly late afternoon. Younger people are at work, travelling home or watching CBBC with the littlies. I watch it while I'm cooking supper.

Paul Martin is such a nice affable bloke. Not edgy or shouty enough I suppose.

Shame.

merlot DH and I watch all the other antique related programes and thoroughly enjoy them but neither of us can watch Flog It because we find Paul Martin so annoying.
It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

Apparently PM will be doing a new antiques quiz so he will still be around. (Do hope the edgy stuff doesn’t come to afternoon telly. Only just got rid of Chris Evans in the mornings).

I like Paul Martin

Sorry but I can’t stand the man! I am sure he is very nice in real life but the whole programme is awful.

kittylester Wed 03-Oct-18 16:36:48

I like Paul Martin but not Flog It!

Alima Wed 03-Oct-18 16:37:57

I like Paul Martin but don’t watch day time telly as such so only catch what DH watches.

Teetime Wed 03-Oct-18 17:03:28

Noooooooooo love Flog it!

Anniebach Wed 03-Oct-18 17:08:06

I think I am a bit obsessed with courtesy and dignity. He is a gentleman, I like that

KatyK Wed 03-Oct-18 17:29:56

I also like Paul Martin but not Flog It

Only saw it once but quite enjoyed "What's it Worth?" with Fern Britton.

I think Flog It is past its sell by date now as are quite a few daytime programmes including Bargain Hunt.

BlueBelle Wed 03-Oct-18 18:51:33

I think Paul Martin seems a really nice gentle bloke can’t see what people find so awful about him I agree with you Anniebach he seems a genuine chap
Flog it probably has had its day I think Bargin hunt has too but I like antique programmes so hope they update them into something else

Mapleleaf Wed 03-Oct-18 22:34:58

He seems a pleasant man to me, too.

We are always being promised new, improved schedules when they cancel popular programmes. Some years ago Sky cancelled Project Catwalk which I really enjoyed. When I complained I was told they were planning a whole lot of new, exciting programmes for women - I'm still waiting. The Coroner was cancelled because there were going to be so many new programmes - yes, endless quizzes and not even good ones like The Link. And what about Home Fires? Cancelled by ITV after a massive cliff hanger. Again we were promised even more exciting programmes!!!

I think all the antique selling type shows have been done to death, how much more Clarice Cliff etc can there be lol.
Tired quiz games too. Why do they think that's all people want to watch late afternoon?

sodapop Thu 04-Oct-18 08:12:33

I agree about antique programmes and quizzes jusnoneed

I liked the Coroner and Home Fires was good too, why were they taken off ? Deeda we can't be the only ones who enjoyed these programmes.

I like Flog It and am sorry to hear it's going. But as long as the lovely Paul Martin is in something else then I will be happy. I think he's great.
I wish they would bring back the Coroner too, sodapop

Another vote here for the coroner.

It might be nice to see something new as opposed to people looking at houses in the country that are just not right enough for them, when they probably had no intention of moving in the first place!!

I hope it is not a BBC version of loose women, as that really has had its day!!! I loved it when it first came out, it was more news led, now it is just smutty celebrity drivel!

goldengirl Thu 04-Oct-18 12:27:44

I enjoy antiques programmes but have to admit Flog it wasn't my favourite - I loathe the name for starters. I like celebrity roadtrip and bargain hunt and learn a bit from these. I too enjoyed The Coroner and also 800 Words which I believe will be making a return. I watch Doctors when I have my lunch and like the way it picks up on various issues such as homelessness and attitudes towards this.

MiniMoon Thu 04-Oct-18 12:42:44

All I can say is good. I never liked Flog It, it's the Antiques Roadshow's poor relation. I do, however, like the Antiques Roadtrip, I enjoy Tim Wonnacott's commentary, and Bargain Hunt has never been the same since his falling out with them.

POGS Thu 04-Oct-18 17:07:24

I really like Paul Martin and I enjoy any antiques/collectable related programmes such as Flog It , For What It's Worth etc. etc.

The only problem I have with the Flog It format is I wish it concentrated on picking and sending more items to auction and stopped all the other ' in fill ' stuff.

merlotgran Thu 04-Oct-18 17:28:37

I like the history 'fill ins', POGS.

It's great when the bidding goes way over expectations especially when it's been undervalued by the experts. Paul Martin seems genuinely delighted for the sellers.

Isn't this what the government demanded of the BBC when the Charter was renewed in 2016?

The BBC was told it had to stop competing with ITV's daytime programming and its "reliance on daytime “property and collectables”"

I rather like Flog it, or anything similar, also get hypnotised by Escape To The Country or A Place In The Sun, when I should be getting on with household chores.grin
