Did anyone else watch the program about our future King the other night. I found it very entertaining and loved his story about the butcher and the black pudding. I felt he came across as a very nice person who is kind and thoughtful and his wife and sons, clearly love him very much.

The royals have never done the work I have done and I have never done the work they have done or do, thank heaven I haven’t

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 10:56:17

Oh yes Work, Work, Work just like the rest of them . grin

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 10:54:49

I have never claimed to “know” anything about them. Only my own thoughts plus what I have learned from various media reports .

HannahLoisLuke Tue 13-Nov-18 10:52:12

I'm with Anniebach and Framilode. Whatever you think of Prince Charles he has done a LOT of good work over the years besides the Prince's Trust and appears to be busy from morning to night.

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 10:49:23

You think Gilly but you do not know. True the wives of heirs to the throne in the past were chosen by their past, this to avoid endless stories of ‘ I had sex with her ‘ , it was of it’s time.

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 10:43:49

I think in Diana’s case though Bridgeit she had been well and truly set up to produce an heir .

Bridgeit Tue 13-Nov-18 10:41:26

Ohh crossed wires I think , my comment was in response to the comment about Diana believing it would be happy ever after
I was saying yes that’s what I and many others , thought, beleived , hoped for, but sadly in reality often this is often not the case.

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 10:24:24

Bridgeit, I am not defending Charles, I am just disagreeing with judgements made with no proof.

I have not posted one lie in defence of Charles or to critcise Diana. The infamous tampon tape has been brought up on this thread. Inaccurately quoted. No mention of the Squidgy tapes .

Bridgeit Tue 13-Nov-18 10:17:19

In ref to Gillybob’s comment

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 10:16:47

I repeated what they both said Gilly, Charles said it in an interview on tv. Diana said it for tape recordings .

Bridgeit Tue 13-Nov-18 10:16:19

Many of us have believed that, sadly it doesn’t always turn out to be the case.

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 10:13:19

Did they say all this over dinner Annie ? You seem to know a great deal about their intimate conversations . hmm

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 10:12:38

Oldwoman70, you can understand Diana having affairs with married men, I cannot. If my husband had had an affair I would have been in bits, devasted , no way would I want to inflict such hurt on another woman.

I have never excused the married men , I do say she was a hypocrite to say there were three in her marriage when she had been the third in several marriages .

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 10:05:00

Charles said he started his affair when his marriage had broken down.

Diana said he was in the affair during their engagement and from the start of the marriage.

There is no proof which shows which is true and which isn’t .

Diana said they were very happy in 1984

Diana said she was in love with Barry Manikee in 1984.

Diana said Charles wore cuff links with his and Camilla’s initials entwined . A post on this thread allegedly gives proof of these cuff links , one C on them.

The press reported everything Diana claimed , Charles has always remained silent.

So decisions are made and guilty verdict has been given on the above.

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 09:32:50

Charlie got what he needed from Diana. A young virgin bride able to provide him with an heir . Job done . I’m obviously not in the inner royal sanctum ( unlike others seem to be) but I really believe that Diana thought she was marrying “a happy ever after” . Poor girl.

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 09:30:50

I didn’t think icanhandthemback said she wanted Charlie punished. I thought she said that he isn’t a role model which is true.

Anniebach Tue 13-Nov-18 09:18:32

Thanks annep. Do you not think there is a difference between criticism and punishment?

Icanhandthemback wants Charles punished for his adultery, as she is a Christian I found it difficult that she wanted to go further than saying adultery is breaking the marriage vows ,which is I suppose a critcism and saying he should be punished . She quoted one of the commandments as a reason for wanting him punished. I must have broken a commandment, i would think most Christians have , so I am as guilty as Charles .

Oldwoman70 Tue 13-Nov-18 08:51:11

I'm surprised at those blaming Diana for having affairs with married men. Did she force herself on them, did she rape them or were they equally at fault. As the saying goes - it takes two to tango. No I don't approve of her adultery but I can understand her looking for affection elsewhere when she was being denied it from her husband.

annep Tue 13-Nov-18 08:37:34

I thought you were saying adultery is wrong, but we dont have the right to criticise those who commit it by quoting Jesus words? But Jesus was saying we don't have the right to punish.

gillybob Tue 13-Nov-18 07:05:11

Well said Day6 I doubt grandpa Charlie will be doing the school runs any time soon.

icanhandthemback Mon 12-Nov-18 23:11:48

That's true Anniebach, I'll just have to stick with my personal view...I have a large enough gut to use for instinct. I just want a better role model as a figure Head of State.

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 23:02:03

but perhaps any Roman Catholics may not need him to defend their faith, they will prefer a direct line to the Pope.

Jalima1108 Mon 12-Nov-18 23:01:14

Yes, I heard that too Eloethan

'Defender of Faiths'

Anniebach Mon 12-Nov-18 22:57:16

Yes he has said that Eleothan , I think he is right

Eloethan Mon 12-Nov-18 22:38:05

As I understand it, when/if Charles becomes king, he will be Defender of Faith not Defender of the faith - according to the Telegraph "a symbolic change to reflect Britain's multicultural society". So it appears the word faith will not in fugure be intended to refer only to Christians but to all faiths and therefore the CofE/Catholic issue isn't really relevant.
