Did anyone watch this last night? I thought it was really good, amazing to think it’s a true story.

ginny Wed 28-Nov-18 21:49:23

I didn’t know any of the story beforehand neither did several other people I have spoken to. Still never mind , too late now. Hopefully there will be plenty of other twists and turns for us to think about.

If you'd seen the interview with Ruth Wilson, you would have known what mimiro had given away. Her grandfather appears to have been a man of mystery.
I'm looking forward to finding out how much of his other life they can unfold.

merlotgran Wed 28-Nov-18 22:04:06

I'm sure I'm not the only one who knew nothing about Ruth Wilson's story.

I too loved it, but not just for the acting and the story line, the costumes, hairstyles and the furnishing of the sets was excellent!

Those little touches, even in such things as the table cloths and tea towels really showed attention to detail, couldn't have been more evocative of it's time.

10/10 so far!

Bellanonna Wed 28-Nov-18 22:29:45

Thoroughly enjoying it.

SueDonim Wed 28-Nov-18 22:44:46

This hadn't figured on my radar until last night so I knew nothing about it until then.

Is Mirimo's spoiler at the heart of the story or is there more to it?

Lynne59 Wed 28-Nov-18 22:47:14

I love Ruth Wilson (Loved her in Luther), and she was good in this. What a strange, but true, story. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

BlueBelle Wed 28-Nov-18 22:55:38

No I knew nothing before last night and hadn’t seen any discussions so it was an all new story for me
Looking forward to the next episode hopefully there are more twists and turns than just his bigamy
Gosh you re observant Phoenix I never noticed any tea towels ?

It is a lot better than so many of the recent dramas. Very exciting and plenty of questions to answer. My DH had missed Kieley Hawkes lurking in the background and had to reel.back to prove I was right!

ninathenana Thu 29-Nov-18 08:24:39

I missed that too Lully

NfkDumpling Thu 29-Nov-18 08:24:42

I didn't realise it was a true story, it really is incredible. Can't wait for the next episode

Sparklefizz Thu 29-Nov-18 08:28:01

I enjoyed it too. Loved seeing all the props and sets and clothes. Apparently the women even have to wear the appropriate underwear for the era - bras in particular in the days when they were more "conical" grin - to get the right bust shape for back then.

Sparklefizz Thu 29-Nov-18 08:29:39

Re Keeley Hawes, when the credits came up at the end, I noticed she is playing a character called Dorothy!!!! The plot thickens ......

JessK Thu 29-Nov-18 09:37:14

Really enjoyed this and looking forward to the next episode. Must be very emotional for Ruth Wilson to take this part.

Blinko Thu 29-Nov-18 09:39:39

SueDonim, there's more to it....

henetha Thu 29-Nov-18 09:47:33

I like Ruth Wilson. She was good in The Affair, and this new (true) drama looks very promising.

glammanana Thu 29-Nov-18 10:13:59

I am going to watch this on catch up at the week-end as I'm sure a lot of us will be doing.
Re spoiler from mirimo my OH does that and tells me the end of a film/programme if he has seen it before he can't hold his own water he has to tell me.

kittylester Thu 29-Nov-18 10:46:18

I don't know where the rest of you live but I have seen, or heard, that spoiler on the radio and in at least one paper.

Ruth Wilson said it felt odd to give birth to her own father!

Nandalot Thu 29-Nov-18 11:10:45

It’s not just Mimiro who let the cat out of the bag, the Radio Times did as well, pictures and everything. It was such a big spread you couldn’t miss it. A bit like hearing the final score when you are looking forward to the excitement of watching the match.

SueDonim Thu 29-Nov-18 13:13:08

Thanks, Blinko. It's been recommended on another chat group I'm on so I'll take a peek!

lemongrove Thu 29-Nov-18 14:30:46

The first episode was very good, great acting I thought by all and good writing too.I liked the way that little snippets of doubt and intrigue gradually built up.

BlueBelle Thu 29-Nov-18 14:48:04

Well I don’t take the radio Times I don’t buy newspapers and it hasn’t been on World Radio Kitty ? ....but it’s allok I like to read up when it’s a real story but NOT before I ve watched it usually so pretty naughty of the papers to spoil it for the masses

Elrel Fri 30-Nov-18 21:15:16

Maybe those who haven't yet watched a drama should avoid threads about it. I watched it because I heard Ruth Wilson's interview and thought her family's story sounded interesting.
As others have said, the production is firmly set in its time (times, rather) with impeccable detail. Great casting and acting too.

BlueBelle Fri 30-Nov-18 21:47:24

Maybe those who haven’t yet watched a drama should avoid threads about it but we have watched it Ethel just not the ending which hasn’t happened yet

Labaik Fri 30-Nov-18 22:11:36

I think it was knowing the full story that made me want to watch it. I seem to miss a lot of good tv dramas these days and it was only reading the interview with Ruth Wilson that made me make a point of watching it, as I found it so fascinating. I mean, it isn't a 'who dunnit' but more of a 'howonearthdidhemanagetodoit'.
