Anyone got a favorite christmas song other than the ones that are endlessly played .There are some lesser known ones out there.Mine is Every Christmas by Luthor Vandross

Every year, the sainted Sir Terry Wogan would play, as a special treat, Frank Kelly's version of The Twelves Days of Christmas - and every year I would have to stop on my way to work because I was laughing so much... I'd like to nominate this as my favourite Christmas song in memory of the lovely man.

O Holy Night!

Dean Martin (a voice like melting Galaxy Choccy!) singing: "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow"

Our Community choir, which only formed a little while ago, bravely decided, last August, to learn 17 Christmas songs to perform in a concert.
The concert took place last night, with an 'full house' of 350, and was a resounding success. I was very glad to finale with this final 'cheesy' song, and look forward to some proper Christmas carols at Midnight Mass, with my church choir.

I work in a small shop selling Scottish things to tourists and local, it’s quality stuff.
We play a cd of Christmas music. It’s Christmas favourites played on the bagpipes! It’s sooo much better than it sounds, the best is “little donkey” played by the unlikely combo of pipes and Jamaica steel band! It’s really, really good.^i might have to buy it....my husband will have a fit!^

The Shepherd’s Carol by Bob Chilcott. Hauntingly beautiful. Wish I could do links!

Dean Martin ‘Let it Snow’. Whenever I hear it I feel Christmas has arrived.
Feliz Navidad by Michael Buble and Kelly Rowlands - watch it on YouTube it’s amazing!
And finally ‘In the Bleak mid winter’.

Leroy Anderson's 'Sleigh Ride'.
I remember listening to it as a child with my lovely Mum. It summed up christmas for me then, and it still does.
Mum died a few years ago but can I please say on Gransnet:

Night night Mum, Merry christmas, and Thank You for leaving me with a wonderful memory of Christmas xxx.
And for all those who have lost a loved one. My thoughts are with you too.
xxxx

This version of Gaudete is spine tingling.
I like a bit of Xmas music while I'm putting the tree up and wrapping etc. I've been out of retail long enough for the songs not to be annoying anymore. ??☃️

I'm another vote for Gaudete by Steeleye Span - it was playing in my local Tesco a couple of days ago, while I was sitting in their 'Costa' with my Christmassy Coffee grin ........................ I was 'singing it out loud', in Latin wink, and it took me back 45yrs to my eldest son's first Christmas.

My favourite is Have Yourself a Merry Little Xmas by Johnny Mathis. Brings back memories of my working days and xmas eve wine bar get togethers.

Arto1s Sun 16-Dec-18 15:55:33

Sweetpea60 is maybe American or Canadian, hence the spelling? I have too many favourites to list here, both traditional Carols and popular music. “In the Bleak Mid Winter” would be right up there, as would Annie Lennox “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.”
Happy Christmas everyone!

Yes hellsbelles...I do like Driving Home for Christmas, but it makes me sad as both my children live in Australia and it’s ages since we’ve had a Christmas together.

Greyduster Sun 16-Dec-18 15:31:27

Ooh yes, Herbie9 - I’d forgotten about that one. Leroy Anderson. Super!

Greyduster Sun 16-Dec-18 15:29:19

I like “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire” and “Driving home for Christmas”, but I also like “The Shepherd’s Farewell” by Berlioz. It’s very soothing. Carols? Harold Darke’s arrangement of “In the Bleak Midwinter”.

Herbie9 Sun 16-Dec-18 15:27:59

I love to hear "Sleigh Ride" b y ? Anderson. Such a catchy tune and good lyrics.
