Am beside myself with excitement, last ever, or so they say, of Luther, starts tonight 9pm BBB1, just four episodes on consecutive evenings, so my favourite detective and so much more, anybody else enthralled by this, I am such a fan!

seacliff Wed 02-Jan-19 21:42:09

I am watching the second series now, and not enjoying it at all so far. Too much awful cruelty. I keep fast forwarding, will probably give up this series unless it drastically improves (unlikely I fear)

Willow500 Wed 02-Jan-19 21:17:22

Well I have it on again tonight and although I did watch the last series I have to confess I've totally forgotten who Alice is and what their relationship is - I hope it explains it somewhere along the line.

Get a grip!

oldbatty Wed 02-Jan-19 19:47:52

too dark, there was a shred of humour and camaraderie in the other episodes.

I won't watch this again, its too cruel.

Lynne59 Wed 02-Jan-19 19:32:08

mcem....rattled enough to reply to my earlier comments. I'm bored now, though, so no need to reply to this one grin

mcem Wed 02-Jan-19 19:01:29

Not the least bit rattled, m'dear. Just can't be bothered with such a trite and obvious post!
Various opinions were being offered and discussed but I believe we are are all aware of the 'off' button and, if we so choose, we know how to use it!

I too have just binge watched series 1 and I am now hooked! Hoping to see all of it in order. It took me a couple of episodes to really get into it.

Yes it is very violent in places, but I just slowly fast forward over those parts - because I hate seeing violence.

I hope I can see all the other series before it disappears.

Lynne59 Wed 02-Jan-19 17:32:03

mcem.... alright, calm down luv grin.

Sorry to have rattled you.....

holdingontometeeth Wed 02-Jan-19 14:20:02

Truth can be far stranger than fiction.

Alypoole Wed 02-Jan-19 14:00:11

Lynne I didn’t say I didn’t enjoy it but I do question if there are such horrific crimes committed.............maybe I’m just naive? I do think you have to suspend the truth in some of these programmes. I also love Iris Elba, bandy legs and all. Hermione Norris always plays the same role in my humble opinion.hmm

Luckygirl Wed 02-Jan-19 13:08:51

I thought it was rubbish - lots of contrived violence for its own sake rather than a real storyline. And that silly mask! I won't be watching again. It was very near the watershed and a lot of early teens will have been watching. Another dose of sexual deviance for them to add to the stuff they get on their phones. No thanks - not for me.

holdingontometeeth Wed 02-Jan-19 12:35:13

Luther is brilliant, as is Alice.
Dark, brooding and dangerous. Meets violence with violence and brings about a just end without the need for the expense of a trial etc.
Ruth Wilson is equally brilliant in “ The Affair. “

Lazigirl Wed 02-Jan-19 12:21:29

Too dark, speech indistinct, very violent, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and am waiting for Alice, because she's brilliant.

mcem Wed 02-Jan-19 10:46:06

Lynne that's hardly the point and is simply stating the obvious!
I chose to watch for the first time and will choose whether or not to watch again.
However if there are significant complaints about the production it's not unreasonable to point them out.

JessK Wed 02-Jan-19 10:42:59

Agree that it was violent but I did think it was very good. The acting is extremely good especially Hermione Norris who doesn't have to do very much to get a character across. Definitely less is more.
I'm looking forward to episode two tonight.

Lynne59 Wed 02-Jan-19 10:29:41

I loved it. I think Idris Elba is gorgeous (although until last night I hadn't noticed his bow legs!). Yes, it was violent, and yes, there ARE nasty people around - but everyone has the choice to watch, or not to watch.

Charleygirl5 Wed 02-Jan-19 10:26:53

I had the subtitles on as well because the diction was so poor.

mcem Wed 02-Jan-19 10:16:53

It was so dark - in all senses of the word - that I found it very hard to follow. As I haven't got into previous series, I don't know the characters.
Will watch ep 2 later today in the hope that it's less disjointed.

Charleygirl5 Wed 02-Jan-19 10:09:36

Gonegirl I thought I was the only person who had not a clue what was going on and I watched it for the entire hour, missing a couple of minutes at the start.

Alypoole Wed 02-Jan-19 09:59:53

It WAS extremely violent! Are there really horrific people like tat in the world? And Luther can certainly take a beating, can’t he? shock

Gonegirl Wed 02-Jan-19 09:54:54

We had it on. Haven't a clue what was going on. And it was too nastily violent close to the watershed.

Nannylovesshopping Wed 02-Jan-19 09:52:55

Well, Luther is obviously drop dead gorgeous as ever, but, it all felt a little stale, can’t believe I’m saying this, maybe Alice turning up at the end, still looking sort of dead, will lift it back up to its anticipated dazzling heights

grannydee123 Tue 01-Jan-19 18:18:33

I'm off work with the flu and because I heard so much about Luther I binged watched the first series - ITS FANTASTIC viewing, even though I had to close my eyes at times. I'm going to record the new series a watch some wet afternoon.

Lazigirl Tue 01-Jan-19 13:21:36

I also enjoyed previous series, and together with Idris Elba I thought Ruth Wilson was brilliant. I understand she is also in this latest series but I am concerned I won't see her in the same way since Mrs Wilson. confused

sodapop Tue 01-Jan-19 12:49:07

Me too Nannylovesshopping I really enjoyed the previous series. Luther is so sexy, not quite as high on my list as Lord M but nearly there grin
