Having wrestled with the Christmas tree to get it into my green wheelie bin and put out an additional 5 bin bags, I settled down with a cuppa and a pikelet. “Birds of a Feather” followed by “French Fields” and now “As Time Goes By”.
Sitcom heaven!

My favourite sitcom of all time was from the '70s - Man about the House. Those wonderful fashions and the gorgeous Richard O'Sullivan.

I do catch one occasionally..great social history..some are hideously sexist / racist but others are quite gently innocuous and calming!

Sexist/racist - especially Till Death do us Part which was really satire.
My FiL was just like Alf Garnett.
My favourite was Friends, but that was in the 90s.

I love " As time Goes By " and watch it every night on channel 20 with " Last of the Summer Wine " following it.

Man about the House .I absolutely loved that .Did anyone see the photo of a recent visit by the Duchess of Sussex to the retirement home for elderly actors?Richard O'sullivan was waiting to greet her.But of a shock to see an old man ,but then I look in the mirror! Also loved Carla Lanes Liver Birds and Butterflies. Citizen Smith and Just Good Friends. And silly as it is DH and I recently watched Allo Allo episodes.Gordon Kaye's comic timing was impeccable.

I used to like 'Bless This House'.

I used to enjoy the sitcom that was about 2 couples who were on permanent holiday abroad and the wife of one of the couples was a bit of a cougar and was always chasing the other husband. I can see their faces but, for the life of me, I can't remember what it's called or the actors in it. Anyone?

I also used to like the one with Yootha Joyce in it but, again, my memory fails me as to what it was called.

MissAdventure Tue 08-Jan-19 19:52:00

Ooh, I remember the abroad one, but not the name.
Was the other 'George and Mildred'?

MissAdventure Tue 08-Jan-19 19:53:41

Duty Free!
I just got my hands stuck into the washing up and remembered..

Chewbacca Tue 08-Jan-19 19:58:44

That's the one MissA! It never seemed to occur to anyone that the characters had been on holiday for months on end!

I always liked Yootha Joyce and was surprised that she died at such a young age and seemed to have been very unhappy, despite her successes in her career.

KatyK Tue 08-Jan-19 20:07:46

Oh yes Duty Free. Gwen Taylor and Keith Baron I think.

EllanVannin Tue 08-Jan-19 20:13:31

Alas, there are no comedy sitcoms any more-----in fact there's nothing that has you really laughing. The young ones don't know what they've missed.

I loved Duty Free, in fact all those sitcoms, there was nothing not to like or enjoy about them.

Ever Decreasing Circles and 'Allo 'Allo were my favourites. Just loved Penelope Wilton and Richard Briers, and also the handsome next door neighbour Paul, and don't mention Howard and Hilda!

Oh, Just Good Friends as well!
