Mastermind misery

Did anyne watch the risible performance of England cricketer Monty Panesar on a recent Mastermind programme?
Not only did he perform miserably in his specialist subject (Sikh religion) but his general knowledge was zero, in fact, less than a 5 yr old.
An absolute disgrace, given that he was born and bred in Luton.
Talk about being insular...
Your thoughts?

merlotgran Tue 15-Jan-19 00:16:50

He had a good education and a degree in computer science so I'm surprised he couldn't make a better fist of it.

Jalima1108 Tue 15-Jan-19 00:17:43

Rabbit in the headlights then.

Anja Tue 15-Jan-19 05:51:55

GG are you trying to tell me who I can and cannot speak to on this thread?

Because I assure you, the likes of you won’t shut me girlie. I

kittylester Tue 15-Jan-19 06:51:27

confused

ffinnochio Tue 15-Jan-19 07:38:16

Never heard of the chap until this thread.

cavewoman Tue 15-Jan-19 07:54:18

Gabriella Could you define the meaning of the word insular?

MawBroon Tue 15-Jan-19 08:03:07

I was merely informing the (possibly) uninformed that, being born and bred here, his knowledge of the country he was educated and lived in fell woefully short of even basic standards

Thank goodness for the informed
Where would the great unwashed be without them?
As for insular?
No man is an island, entire of itself - not even Luton
.

Why do I get a picture of bitter lemons when you post Gabriella how difficult it must be to always be so superior how can you bear to talk to us minions who may think a mans name defines where he hails from ( your judgements would have great fun with my surname)

Anniebach Tue 15-Jan-19 08:32:09

Hell bells, it’s a game of ‘windup’ , not ‘bitter lemons’ .

mcem Tue 15-Jan-19 09:17:20

Nastiness is par for the course with some posters!
jangran and anja I hope you silly girls have taken to heart that telling-off and are sitting on the naughty step, duly chastened.

Annie could well be right. It must be a windup!
Surely no-one could actually reach that level of arrogance (and insularity) otherwise, could they?

Anja Tue 15-Jan-19 09:36:46

mcem yes ma’am!

Jangran99 Tue 15-Jan-19 09:37:15

mcemgrin
As you can see, my face, grin matches my grief!
( My mum's response to those who showed unnecessary malice.)

Anja Tue 15-Jan-19 09:39:21

Annie the cry of the bully is ‘I was just joking’

I couldn’t give a tnker’s fart myself but there are others who are more fragile. I’m not impressed by ‘friends of....’ who back these sorts up. Think on.

MawBroon Tue 15-Jan-19 09:50:59

I have been amazed more than once at posters who deliver pronouncements of such pomposity that they simply beg to be ridiculed.
Whether on matters political/Brexit/the deserving or undeserving poor/geographical/style/ or even grammatical (and still get it wrong)
There must be a lot of egg on some faces!

henetha Tue 15-Jan-19 10:00:56

I must admit that I'm sometimes amazed at the ignorance of "celebrities"... nevertheless, they have the courage to sit in the black chair, and I don't! So I admire their guts.

mcem Tue 15-Jan-19 10:03:44

(In the most patronising voice possible).
Well done j and a. Good girls!

The more I think about it the worse it gets. How can any decent human being invite readers to line up and laugh at someone who did badly in a quiz and probably feels rather bad about it?
(And he isn't even a foreigner!!)

Anniebach Tue 15-Jan-19 10:09:54

Anja I didn’t say it was a joke I said it was a wind up, not the same.

Wind ups - reving up a car to annoy/upset neighbours,
Children who play noisy games close to a persons home just to annoy in the hope it will cause someone to react.

Showing off, attention seeking .

Anja Tue 15-Jan-19 10:11:04

Or just plain nastiness.

Anniebach Tue 15-Jan-19 10:14:58

Same thing Anja

Jalima1108 Tue 15-Jan-19 10:16:18

Poor Monty BSc, England cricketer.

One misjudged appearance on tv done in all good faith for charity and he is condemned for ever by keyboard warriors who hide behind their anonymity.

Jalima1108 Tue 15-Jan-19 10:19:09

When I say keyboard warriors I mean out there, there seems only to be one on here.

merlotgran Tue 15-Jan-19 10:21:28

Are you referring to everyone who made a comment about a poor performance on Celebrity Mastermind, Jalima?

I do hope not.

merlotgran Tue 15-Jan-19 10:22:02

Crossed posts, Jalima.

Jalima1108 Tue 15-Jan-19 10:28:07

smile
No, merlot, I hope you kwim!

humptydumpty Tue 15-Jan-19 10:57:48

merlotgran what are these 'humpty dumpty' programmes of which you speak?!
