Nothing we didn't already know but I liked his approach.

No sycophant, he.

I think saying "what are they for" is not talking about them as individuals but is asking "what is the institution of monarchy for"? However, it did give the impression that it was going to be a hatchet job (I knew it wouldn't be).

I didn't watch it because I am not a fan of the monarchical system and I thought Paxman was used because his combative style would give the impression that he had no personal opinion on the matter. However, I felt fairly sure that he would reach the conclusion that the monarchy was a good thing. He is a traditionalist at heart and his brusque and superior manner is something he has in common with several members of the royal family.

How about Jeremy Paxman for President?

Your starters for ten?

I think I'd rather have the Royal Family than different Presidents.

I'm not so partial to JP though!

janeainsworth Sat 09-Feb-19 16:39:38

I’m quite partial to a nice Riesling myself jalima grin

Jalima1108 Sat 09-Feb-19 15:34:51

One (large) glass of rather nice Riesling Janea
It's a good thing I stopped at one glass!

PECS Sat 09-Feb-19 08:49:49

Teetime He is still my fantasy lover. grin

Teetime Here's your starter for ten
Come along now!
Oh! Do come on, let's have it please
No, I'm afraid you lose five points...

PECS Fri 08-Feb-19 22:43:29

Oh I have no doubt he is a clever and intelligent chap! Just a bit disparaging at times!

merlotgran Fri 08-Feb-19 22:37:16

I remember seeing him on the Graham Norton Show two or three years ago. He was the wittiest, funniest guest I think I've ever seen on there.

PECS Fri 08-Feb-19 22:34:37

Yes I think he does like it.. he may not mean to come across as he does (to me anyway!) On screen persona may be different to RL!

Deedaa Fri 08-Feb-19 22:19:47

In his autobiography he says how much he enjoys University Challenge and what fun it is to do.

PECS Thu 07-Feb-19 14:10:38

Oh I find Paxo's approach slightly smug. He has mellowed a bit on UC and now offers praise as well as his sneering disbelief that someone got an answer wrong. His manner implies an element of haughtiness!

NotTooOld Thu 07-Feb-19 14:04:11

BradfordLass - grin

Teetime Thu 07-Feb-19 09:23:26

Well I really like Paxo but I though that programme was not worthy of his journalistic talents. Nothing new and a lot of recycled material at one point I thought it was like tabloid journalism. He is still my fantasy lover. grin

Alima Thu 07-Feb-19 06:50:17

Possibly Daddima. He looks like someone has shot his horse as he is so bow-legged. Rickets?

Daddima Thu 07-Feb-19 06:04:10

I enjoyed it ( and am I the only one thinking Jeremy is becoming more attractive with age?)

BradfordLass72 Thu 07-Feb-19 03:19:26

I always thought he was called Paxo because people want him to get stuffed. smile

Engineered Thu 07-Feb-19 00:28:34

I don't want a President, so keep the status quo.

PECS Wed 06-Feb-19 22:53:17

Why doesn't Andrew work for the family?

Anniebach Wed 06-Feb-19 22:38:35

The working family is less now, queenie, Charles , Camilla, William , Kate, Ann, Harry, Megan, Edward, Sophie .

Remember when there were 6 Kents and 2 Gloucesters too
