Love seeing these famous oldies visiting different countries. Very interesting to see how different cultures live. Find Miriam Margolyes very annoying and positively rude though. Love Jan Leeming and Paul Nicholas.

At least Miriam isn't on this tonight , Vietnam looks very beautiful

gillybob Wed 27-Feb-19 21:55:59

I’m just catching up and loving what I see of Argentina . In my next life I will visit there for sure . smile

Anniebach Wed 27-Feb-19 22:00:04

Miriam Margoyles amuses me

Jane Leeming is so sad , 5 marriages and at 77 still seems so needy

Paul Nicholas I like

Just caught up on episode 2 in Argentina. Sheila Ferguson annoyed me, all the way through.

EllanVannin Wed 27-Feb-19 22:32:53

I just love Sid Little and his bluntness, he's hilarious. No side to him at all, a natural.

However I think they all do very well in the countries they visit. That cable ride was no mean feat, then the climb to the top. Well done to Rosemary and Stephanie.

Although I liked the first couple of series like most things in the ‘reality’ area of tv it’s totally predicicabe and boring now so I haven’t bothered with this series I really don’t want to see old celebs on a feebie

TwiceAsNice Thu 28-Feb-19 08:13:48

I have enjoyed it have not seen the latest one yet. I agree Sheila Ferguson is very annoying. I find most people who “say it as it is” are just plain rude and like drawing attention to themselves.

NanaandGrampy Thu 28-Feb-19 08:47:14

I liked the episode in Russia but wondered if the places they saw were selected or approved by the Russians as everything was very nice !!

Sheila Ferguson is very 'me, me, me' I think. I totally agree with you anniebach Jan Leeming does come across as very needy and its a little bit wincey to watch her flirt with total strangers- almost seems desperate .

leyla Thu 28-Feb-19 08:52:26

I love Wayne - so friendly and full of life!

Anniebach Thu 28-Feb-19 08:58:07

i felt uncomfortable watching Jan Leeming .

Miriam Margoyles interests me, at times she seems a child,
not with her swearing !

Teetime Thu 28-Feb-19 09:00:05

Stephanie Beecham was good value last night and much less Diva- ish than last time I saw her. I love Rosemary!

shysal Thu 28-Feb-19 09:21:27

I enjoyed last night's programme. Stephanie has improved a bit but was rather Diva-ish at the painting class. I love Syd and Wayne and it was nice to see Rosemary healthier than a year ago. My lasting memory from the Russian episode is Miriam's 'death stare' when someone jumped a queue in front of her! If looks could kill...!

merlotgran Thu 28-Feb-19 09:38:34

Good old Rosemary. She's such a trouper and I'm pleased she managed those horribly steep steps. I was surprised slim and fit Wayne had to give up. He really did look unwell.

My 'bungalow legs' would never have got me to the top. grin

Cherrytree59 Thu 28-Feb-19 10:13:51

I agree Annie
Jan Leeming really irritated me, when asked why she had married so many times her reply (apologies can not remember her exact words) was along the lines that all her husbands had affairs and left her.
Jan forgot to mention her affair.
She wants to come across as shy and demur but instead portrays a very needy character.

After several programmes of 'Jan's plight' it has become a bit tedious.

I enjoy watching the scenery and interesting places they visit enroute.
However the original concept based on the book and film was for retired to people to experience retired life through the eyes of retirees from other cultures and contemplate if they themselves would wish to retire to that country and live a 'The Marigold Hotel style life'.

Now it is more of a jolly for The Not So Retired TV Celebs. ?

KatyK Thu 28-Feb-19 10:53:47

My DH said that last night Cherrytree He said 'what happened to finding out what it's like to be retired in these countries?'

sroge Thu 28-Feb-19 10:56:43

Yes totally agree it's become a bit of a jolly for them. Wonder how much they get paid!!!

DanniRae Sat 02-Mar-19 09:51:40

I am enjoying this programme - except for any episodes with Miriam Margoyles - but don't fancy the next one with The Krankies in it. I am not happy watching them because of something I read about them in the past. I have just looked it up and they claim that they used to be 'swingers'. Yuk!! shock

POGS Sat 02-Mar-19 10:24:59

I agree it has becomes too concentrated on the celebs but I guess if viewers have not watched other series then they need I production to the celebrity and the format of the show.

I agree with shysal about Miriam's 'death stare' in the Russian train station. I think she is a very rude woman and surprisingly not very savvy at times. When she is doing something that ' suits her ' she is a different person. My companion nightmare.

I enjoyed the Vietnam episode a tad better than Russia or Argentina and I thought the Vietnamese people showed a humorous characteristic. As said beautiful scenery and I would love to do that train journey Rosemary and Sid took.

NanaandGrampy Sat 02-Mar-19 12:02:47

The train journey looked fabulous I agree POGS , got me googling train journeys around the world ...and dreaming !

I've always admired Miriam Margolyes: a fine actor, brilliant at voices and very versatile.

All that's still true but a few years ago I met he in Wellington and as a person she's dreadful - as one poster said here, very rude, doesn't seem to care a fig what she says or how she upsets people. Not a nice human being (IMO) at all.

Susan56 Sun 03-Mar-19 08:14:09

I too found Jan’s flirty behaviour embarrassing to watch.DH said she may as well have a sign around her neck saying available!I’m not keen on Miriam, used to find her funny but she just seems so rude now,Really like Rosemary,Wayne and Paul.

I have yet to watch the latest episode on catch up. The best one I ever watched which made me want to visit the place was Iceland in Reykjavik. It was a great episode and did show in detail how their pensioners lived there.
Jan Leeming was just as needy in it though. To the point I felt a bit embarrassed for her.
I think MM must be like Marmite! I enjoy watching and listening to her but admit her swearing and directness puts most people off. Plus the way she eats, shovelling her food in with a fork, plate held under her chin. She actually doesn’t care what people think of her it seems. I did like the episode where she accompanied Jan Leeming to a hair salon - talk about Beauty and the Beast - it was so funny!
