We watched the latest episode yesterday and I realised that I have lost track of the personal relationships - could someone please remind me. Thank you.

I love Shetland even though I often have no flipping idea what is going on.

I’ve read all the Shetland books and watched all the TV series, and I don’t remember her cropping up anywhere. Perhaps they suddenly thought he needed some love interest. Which he does. I did offer, but.......

The woman he was kissing is called Alice - she is married to a local Shetlander I've seen Alice's husband playing a nasty baddie in something else, can't remember what, so this does not bode well...….

A brief resume of the characters:

That was noble of you Greyduster - the true spirit of self- sacrifice!
I noticed this series that the credits are for the “characters created by Anne Cleeves” so I suspect we have moved on from the books.
But talking of them, did anybody hear AC on Desert Island Discs?
I was prompted to download the latest and the last Jimmy Perez Shetland book and did nothing else all day unti I had finished it!

I did offer, but.......
You're down the queue, sorry Greyduster grin

Perez has 2 ex wives, Sarah then Fran. Fran had a daughter Cassie with Duncan. Duncan was a bit of a rogue so Cassie would have ended up moving south with grandparents if Perez hadnt given her the stability of staying in her home and school on shetland.

He f***ed up and Fran got killed by suspects in one of his murder investigations

Fran was a very popular artist so her friends keep popping up in storylines.

In the books he ends up with a colleague not with this married friend.

(Actually I think he and Fran were engaged not married when she died. She left a note saying if anything happened to her Cassie should stay in their home with Perez. Perez felt it was the least he could do after getting Cassies mum killed)

I like the series but agree that the books are better. The latest episode was very tense. Not sure I like or trust Alice.
I watched an old episode of Dalziel and Pascoe yesterday, Douglas Henshall was in it, he had longish hair and looked very dishy. He was the villain so it was different seeing him from a different perspective.
I do wish he would shave in the Shetland series though!

MawBroon Sat 02-Mar-19 07:22:13

I’m getting a funny feeling about Alice too. The books are loads better, but as Celtic Noir goes this is very acceptable.
The last Jimmy Perez is excellent by the way - no spoiler alerts!

Luckygirl Sat 02-Mar-19 09:46:48

Shave! shock - no, definitely not! We all like a bit of rough!

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Mar-19 10:07:11

grin
Looks like there's a queue - I'll shove Alice out of the way

Greyduster Sat 02-Mar-19 10:40:05

1inamillion we watched that one too! Agree; young, blond and dishy, but I prefer him slightly careworn!

sodapop Sat 02-Mar-19 13:11:04

The books are better but I am still enjoying this series. I am reading Cold Earth where its mentioned a couple of times that Fran " bequeathed " her daughter to Perez in the event of her death. I think she felt Perez would be a more stable parent than Duncan.
I agree Luckygirl no shaving required.

Gonegirl Sat 02-Mar-19 13:14:57

Ah, that will help with the remembering sodapop. The 'bequeathing' bit. Thanks.

At the time of her note re Cassie staying with Perez I think Duncan was still back and forth between the south and shetland and at that point had fingers in so many pies he just logistically wasnt about to do school runs etc so Cassie would have had to go south to grandparents and leave her school/home.

It wasnt so much about Duncan being "unsuitable" and more about Cassie getting to stay in her house/school IMO

notanan2 Sat 02-Mar-19 14:33:43

Perez was more 9-5 than Duncam

notanan2 Sat 02-Mar-19 14:38:30

Perez, Cassie and Fran lived in Fran's dream house overlooking the sea & Cassie went to the small local school (not in lerwick) and that was the life Fran wanted for Cassie. She had left London for it. I think the grandparents were still in/near London

MawBroon Sat 02-Mar-19 14:44:56

Well - spoiler alert! Gransnet Noir.
Alice’s body is found in a but an ben, strangled with a skein of knitting wool and asphyxiated with a large chunk of cupcake . Jimmy Perez has a list of suspects, ladies, shall we say “of a certain age” who have been seen to be making advances, cooing such endearments as “seems like a nice boy” and “we like a bit of rough”.
Now read next week’s gripping instalment..... [brin]

notanan2 Sat 02-Mar-19 14:45:17

Its a bit irritating because you cant just will your kids to whoever you want, its ultimately up to the childrens court and given that there were willing blood relatives AND the circumstances of Frans death Im surprised Perez got to keep her (or his job)

But thats being pedantic grin Im glad he did because I love the dynamics of Perez and Duncan, they are good for each other: Duncan reminds Perez to have fun once in a while and Perez is Duncans voice of reason

MawBroon Sat 02-Mar-19 14:45:49

That was Gaelic for grin !

kittylester Sat 02-Mar-19 14:52:24

Erm, I think that the person who starts the thread should have first dibs on Perez!!

notanan2 Sat 02-Mar-19 14:55:29

But Douglas Henshall doesnt look well this series IMO. He looks puffy/goutey I hope he is okay

And the actress who plays Tosh is less convincing as the single party gal given that she is so much older now & her previous story line (& the massive bump she was sporting last series). Her character's dress sense/lifestyle should be maturing in line with her age/career IMO

MawBroon Sat 02-Mar-19 16:22:20

Needs the love of a good woman perhaps?

Jalima1108 Sat 02-Mar-19 16:26:42

MawBroon grin
Any volunteers to make the cupcake - I can provide lots of yarn from my stash!

notanan2 Sat 02-Mar-19 18:04:22

MawBroon with those bags under his eyes its more likely hes been out getting too much of that! wink

dragonfly46 Sat 02-Mar-19 18:13:56

My DH complains that he hasn't a clue what Tosh is saying.
