I'm starting this new thread as apparently our other one was over a year old!! shock

We'll have to do more gossiping to prevent this happening again.

Here's a link to the old one.

The Snell Sniff is sublime, in its own way, conveys so much in one nasal inhalation!

eGJ Fri 27-Mar-20 20:50:52

Suffering from withdrawal symptoms too!grin

Greeneyedgirl Fri 27-Mar-20 20:46:19

Oh no! I tuned in tonight and of course it's not on on Fridays now. I didn't realise how I relied on it for a bit of escapism from our surreal world at the moment.

Iam64 Fri 27-Mar-20 08:15:07

Nooo keep Linda Snell, her sniff and voice are part of her wonderful character.

LullyDully Fri 27-Mar-20 08:14:10

Better to kill her off than replace her. She has such a strident voice.

Luckygirl Thu 26-Mar-20 22:28:01

eGJ - I too wondered if there had been a change of actress for Linda Snell.

merlotgran Thu 26-Mar-20 19:16:29

I'd think I'd shoot Peggy and Jill.

eGJ Thu 26-Mar-20 19:15:53

Is it just me or is Linda not being played by Carole Boyd at present? Radio Times doesn’t help! btw no mention of Philip Moss in next week’s cast, though Gavin’s there and Chloe!

LullyDully Thu 26-Mar-20 19:12:43

Peggy wouldn't want her visiting me in hospital.

MawB Wed 25-Mar-20 19:59:10

Tempting prospect!

katie1 Wed 25-Mar-20 19:52:53

They might lockdown Ambridge like the village of Eyam during the plague.?

LullyDully Wed 25-Mar-20 19:31:45

I have tried to write to Radio 4 to suggest that we have some vintage Archers to fill the Friday slot. I would like to hear Nelson/ Walter or Nigel for a bit.of fun. If you think this is a good idea could you also try to ask? I am not sure if my request went through.

LullyDully Tue 24-Mar-20 11:14:34

However The Archers is the only soap I indulge in theses days so I will miss my 19.00 slot upstairs in peace .

GracesGranMK3 Tue 24-Mar-20 10:58:33

They usually do manage to refer to real-life events. I would have thought we might have got an "aren't we lucky no one in the village has been affected" or "I can't have Mungo because of our ages". It just keeps them in the real world and they have done this in the past. Perhaps they are already programming to stop the soaps as others have said.

Greeneyedgirl Tue 24-Mar-20 10:29:49

You would think that shysal but if they move on to the present situation it couldn't work.
It would be hard to develop storylines whilst all in social isolation, and if they totally ignored present sitation wouldn't it be a bit weird?

Franbern Tue 24-Mar-20 09:32:47

Does appear as if there has been a definite decision for Soaps to avoid any mention of CV. As they are all likely to be stopping very soon, suppose they feel they should just continue their present storylines at present as there is nothing they could really add with regard to the current crisis.
Once back to some semblence of normal suppose it would be an excellent time for them to be able easily to get rid of some of the characters.

grumppa Tue 24-Mar-20 09:05:53

Derek Jacobi would agree with you, MawB. In a recent interview he commented that Coronation Street nowadays is plot driven rather than character driven. This seems to be true of all soaps, whether on radio or television.

It is hard to see how any soap can build coronavirus convincingly into it's scripts. It would be reduced to family rows in individual houses and yelling down the telephone.

silverlining48 Tue 24-Mar-20 08:57:27

I have never been sure about Philip who turns out to be a gang master and a bully.
I hope Ed and Em get together,
Roy and Kirsty too, she certainly deserves happiness.
I want to be in cv free ambridge NOW!

merlotgran Tue 24-Mar-20 08:11:09

I'm sure they will, LullyDully.

I predict Susan and Neeyull will be the first to test positive for coronavirus but they'll live on a diet of chilli and make a speedy recovery.

Iam64 Tue 24-Mar-20 08:10:35

Emma and Ed should be together and yes, LullyDully, I believe they will reconcile. They love their children, are close to each others extended families and are currently getting on well. Let's not have every couple in the village separated.

I could never see Kirsty and Phillip as a couple. He's never been right for her and these boring types sometimes do successfully hide the sinister side of their personalities. Phew, what a baddy. Kirsty and Roy 4eva

LullyDully Tue 24-Mar-20 08:05:06

Feeling sentimental. Do you think Emma and Ed could get back together?

shysal Tue 24-Mar-20 07:08:41

I would have thought that being a radio show they would be able to record the parts individually from the actors' homes. Seems not.
I always felt that Kirstie was not really in love with Philip. I hope she leaves him before boing even more hurt.

GracesGranMK3 Mon 23-Mar-20 21:03:06

No episode on Friday's. Well done that they are finding a way to keep going though.

MawB Mon 23-Mar-20 19:43:34

This is a weakness in their attempt to be exciting. They fail to develop characters over a period of time so lose their motivation and any depth of character.
Oh dear.

merlotgran Mon 23-Mar-20 19:37:05

His change in character has been far to rapid to be believed. Rob Titchener's was far more subtle and therefore more sinister. Philip sounds like a pantomime nasty.
